Turn away from Brookfield on Highway 289, and drive for approximately 5 minutes to reach # 1554 - Five Fires Equestrian Centre, on the right hand side, ‘A’ on the map. You will pass a large blue fabric building on the right shortly before reaching the facility, as well as a power corridor. 1 Helmet Policy: ASTM/SEI or BSI approved helmets required for all riders at all times while mounted on Five Fires Equestrian Center property. Entry Requirements: Both the person(s) showing the horse and horse owners must have a NSEF membership or equivalent Provincial Sport Organization (PSO) members hip. Competition Office The competition office will be open from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, April 11 and 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Saturday, April 12 and Sunday, April 13. The competition office is located at the front of the Five Fires arena. Please register at the office upon arrival. Payment and Fee Information Payment may be made by credit card (see registration form) There is a $25.00 fee for late / incomplete entries Refunds and Substitutions Deadline: Ring Size: Competitors withdrawing an entry after the official closing date will forfeit all fees, or Another horse may be substituted up until March 28 for a horse unable to compete, if it is competing in the same classes. Entries must be received in hand by Thursday, April 3. A late fee of $25 will be charged for entries received after April 3, if the entry is accepted. All classes will be held in an indoor 78 ft. x 204 ft. sand ring. Stabling Information: 15 stalls are available on site, and will be assigned on a first come first served basis as per receipt of entries. Stalls are 10’ X 10’. Please provide your own bedding, hay and feed, and all necessary horse keeping tools and equipment. Please groom and tack horses inside the stalls. Stalls must be stripped prior to departure from the facility. Note for the future: an additional 20 stalls are planned for later in 2014. Tentative Schedule and Ride Times The competitions are tentatively scheduled to begin at 9:00 am. The schedule will be posted on the Five Fires website, www.fivefires.ca, 2 on April 9, after 1:00 pm, and emailed to participants. Please don’t telephone for ride times. Final ride times will be posted daily at the competition office. Restaurants and Accommodations A variety of restaurants are available in Brookfield, 5 minutes from the competition facility. A variety of hotels are available. The closest is Super 8, 10 minutes away. General Rules and Information 1. Dogs must be on a leash at all times. 2. Competition Management reserves the right to make rulings upon any matters not covered by the prize list specifications. 3. It is a condition of entry that neither Five Fires Equestrian Center nor the Competition Committee, staff, and volunteers will be held responsible in any way for damage, injury, or loss to persons, horses, or property of spectators or competitors. 4. Lunging is permitted in the outdoor warm up area if it doesn’t interfere with other competitors. If lunging please be respectful of others’ needs and lunge at nonpeak times. Competition Management may request that lunging be discontinued, based on warm up ring usage and their own discretion. Insurance MANDATORY to participate (NSEF, NBEA, etc.) Membership numbers MUST accompany the entry forms Placing, Ribbons and Championships 1. Class ribbons will be awarded to sixth place. 2. Ties: In the event that competitors have the same total points, they shall remain tied. 3. In this instance no ribbons or prizes will be awarded below 4th place 4. Championship Classes - For each Division (Halter, Showmanship etc.) there will be one combined Champion Class. This class will be made up of the 1st and 2nd place horses from the individual classes (Yearling, 2 Year Old, 3 Year Old) and be judged together as one group. First place winners will receive 25% of class entry fees and second place will receive 15% of class entry fees. Year End Championships 1. 2. Points will be assigned to each placing within the classes - see chart below for details. This class is for stock type horses (AQHA, APHA or equivalent). Yearling Halter 2-Year Old Halter 3-Year Old Halter Champion Halter Hunter In Hand Sporthorse or Hunter In Hand is essentially a halter class for the performance horse. An exhibitor is allowed to show more than one horse in a class. The horse is judged individ ually on a triangle, with 60% for movement, 30 % for conformation, and 10% for temper ament. Yearling Hunter In Hand 2-Year Old Hunter In Hand 3-Year Old Hunter In Hand Champion Hunter In Hand Grooming And Conditioning The judge will look at the horse’s appearance and overall condition of horse is consider ed, although conformation is not judged. Yearling Grooming And Conditioning 2-Year Old Grooming And Conditioning 3-Year Old Grooming And Conditioning Champion Grooming And Conditioning Showmanship Showmanship focuses on the exhibitor's ability to fit and show a horse at halter. Judges evaluate the grooming and fitting of the horse and the expertise of the exhibitor in prese 4 nting the horse to the best of his or her ability. Contestants must work a predetermined pattern consisting of maneuvers such as walking, trotting, pivoting, backing and setting up. Yearling Showmanship 2-Year Old Showmanship 3-Year Old Showmanship Champion Showmanship Trail Trail horses must also be accomplished in numerous obstacles such as passing through gates and crossing bridges. Trail judges focus on the skill of the horse to handle certain situations that might occur on an outdoor trail ride. Scoring is based on the horse's willi ngness, ease and grace in negotiating the course. Yearling Trail 2-Year Old Trail 3-Year Old Trail Champion Trail Longe Line To demonstrate that the horse has the movement, manners/expression/attitude, and co nformation to become competitive under saddle. Therefore, the purpose of this class is t o reward: 1. Quality of movement. 2. Manners/Expression/Attitude 3. Conformation suita ble to future performance, and the horse should be judged with its suitability as a future performer under saddle in mind. This class should define what it means to be a “Wester n pleasure prospect” or “hunter under saddle prospect.” Because these are young hors es, they are not expected to demonstrate the behavior or quality of a finished show hors e, but only that performance necessary for a reasonable presentation to the judge. Yearl ing Longline will be walk/jog only – loping/cantering will not be required. Yearling Longe Line 2-Year Old Longe Line 3-Year Old Longe Line Champion Longe Line Command This is an elimination class. The last horse to be eliminated is the winner. Elimination is a result of the horse refusing to do the commands in a timely manner. Yearling Command 2-Year Old Command 3-Year Old Command Champion Command Barrel Racing In this timed competition, three barrels placed in a triangular configuration define the co urse. Exhibitors are required to jog or lope their horses in-hand in a cloverleaf pattern ar 5 ound the barrels. Riders may select either the front left or front right barrel to work first, but if a barrel is tipped over, a five-second penalty is added to the contestant’s time. Yearling Barrel Racing 2-Year Old Barrel Racing 3-Year Old Barrel Racing Champion Barrel Racing Pole Bending In this event, exhibitors maneuver their nimble horses through a line of poles in the faste st possible time without knocking over a pole. For each pole that is knocked down or tou ched by the exhibitor’s hand as the team runs through the pattern, a five-second penalt y is added to the contestant’s time. Yearling Pole Bending 2-Year Old Pole Bending 3-Year Old Pole Bending Champion Pole Bending Sign Waiver and return (either on-line or bring it with you). No one will be permitted to compete unless the show committee has a signed waiver on file. 6
