LECTURERSHIP IN PHYSICS (6hrs) 3 years, Fixed Term FURTHER PARTICULARS Lincoln College invites applications for a 6-hour Stipendiary Lecturership in Physics, tenable for three years from September 1st 2014 to cover short term teaching needs in the subject. The post is not renewable. The successful candidate will be expected to teach an average of six hours per week, per term. The Lecturer will be required as part of the ordinary duties of the post to provide tutorial teaching, to participate fully in the organisation of teaching in Physics and the pastoral supervision of undergraduates (including marking Collections and helping with the admissions interviews) together with our Fellow in Physics, Dr Radu Coldea. The Lecturer will be expected to teach first year Mechanics and Special Relativity, second year Mathematical Methods and Quantum Physics, and be able to offer teaching in one of the following third year topics: Flows and Fluctuations, Symmetry and Relativity, Atomic and Molecular Physics, Subatomic Physics, General Relativity. Candidates should indicate in their letter of application which of these topics they would be able to offer. The successful candidate will have, or will be in the final stages of completing, a doctorate, and must have teaching experience in Physics at undergraduate level. The Lecturer in Physics may also have responsibility as advisor for a small number of graduate students in the College reading for advanced degrees in related subjects. The advisor acts as an additional source of support and guidance, but is not expected to provide supervision. A small additional payment is made for each student advised. The salary offered is in the range £12,383 to £13,927 per annum and is pensionable. As this salary will not meet the UKBA minimum threshold to enable a Tier 2 Visa appointment, all candidates for the post must be able to demonstrate they already possess the right to work in the UK. The successful candidate will have the option of becoming, or remaining, a member of the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS). Other benefits include a small book allowance, currently £99 per annum, and a hospitality credit, currently £117 per annum. Common Room Rights are offered which include five meals per week (excluding Domus, Guest and Chapter Day dinners), with the right to bring a guest to lunch or dinner at the lecturer’s own expense. These rights extend from the Monday two weeks before the start of Full Term until the end of Tenth Week inclusive. About Lincoln College Lincoln is one of the oldest Oxford Colleges with fine historic buildings located in the centre of the City of Oxford. It has a strong sense of collegiality with a reputation for integrating its graduate and undergraduate students in a highly successful traditional community.
