GASC District School Expectations & Contract Holding a position as a District Representative School of the Georgia Association of Student Councils is a great honor. With that honor, however, comes a great responsibility. Please read through the expectations of the District Representative School and sign below. This form must accompany your letter of intent. Assist the Vice President School with the recruitment of schools within the district, April-November. 2. Serve as a point of communication between GASC and member schools. 3. Attend at least two (2) District Representatives Meetings: one at the end summer and one before Leadership Summit. 4. Participate in a virtual (or online) meeting once a month with the Vice President school. 5. Attend, represent, and assist at the Leadership Summit and GASC Convention. 6. Host a District Rally and Speech Competition 7. Provide feedback to the Executive Board based on district needs. As a District Representative School, it is your responsibility to have your two student representatives and their adult advisor in attendance at all meetings. If an officer or advisor is sick or unable to attend, a replacement delegate or advisor should be sent. It is vital to our organization that we have ample representation at every meeting. In addition, District Representative Schools are expected to be in attendance at the Leadership Summit and State Convention. District Representative Contract Having read these expectations, our school is ready and willing to serve as a GASC District Representative School. We understand our responsibility to attend meetings and events and to host a District Rally and a Winter Speech Competition. To be approved at July 2015 meeting. The two students representing each District Representative School will be treated as Executive Board members in matters of quota and fees for the GASC Leadership Summit and Convention. Duties of the District Representative Schools 1. Assist Vice President School with the recruitment of schools within the district. 2. Host a District Rally in September, October or November. a. Hold workshops for awards competitions and other topics. b. Promote Leadership Summit, Convention and other student council events. 3. Host a district level speech competition in January with winner(s) submitted for state convention. 4. Communicate all GASC information with district schools. 5. Facilitate a Middle School Rally to be run by high school students from the district or include workshops for middle school at your district rally. 6. Attend a District Representatives Meeting in July, District Representatives Meeting the day before Leadership Summit, and monthly online meetings. 7. Assist with check-in of schools at the Leadership Summit & Convention (if needed). 8. Provide feedback to the Executive Board based on district needs. District Representatives To-Do Check List 1. Recruitment should take place throughout August-October. Make contact with all middle and high schools in your district. a. To locate the names and contact information for schools in your region, search school system websites by county. b. The Vice President School will also provide you with a spreadsheet of schools in your district. c. These websites will provide the names and contact information of all the high schools and middles schools in the school system and possibly links to the schools’ websites. d. Complete the spreadsheet provided with the school names and contact information and share with Vice President. e. If possible, contact schools to get advisor information; if not, then send recruitment information to the school addressed to the principal or student council advisor. 2. Plan a District Rally for September, October, or November. a. Set date and location b. Find speaker for keynote* c. Organize round tables and workshops including presenters and materials* d. Plan icebreakers/games and convention chants and songs* e. Organize food (lunch and snacks) f. Customize and distribute information and registration forms* g. Plan for T-shirts (optional) h. Prepare rally report and submit to Vice President* 3. Attend District Representative Meeting the day before Leadership Summit. 4. Attend GASC Leadership Summit. a. Report to Capitol Building at 8 am to assist with check-in by districts 5. Organize and host a speech competition in January. (Obtain judges and awards and submit winners to VP.) 6. Attend GASC Convention 2016. a. Arrive by 1 pm to assist with registration by districts *information, templates, editable forms, outlines, materials and “how to” provided by GASC.
