Water in Gambella
There is a rainy and dry season in Gambella. However, even during the rainy season water is not always
readily accessible. As our travelers can testify to it took four day’s of extremely hot weather with only
minimal drinking water available before it rained and they could enjoy their first cool shower. Vessels
are left out year around under any area where they can capture water when it rains. (3164, 3163)
These vessels are used to carry water from nearby wells or the river 5 – 10 minutes away

These people are collecting drinking water from the intermittent stream in the background. It is unsafe
to drink but all they have, many times causing malaria and dysentery and other water born diseases.
