Greenmeadows Rotary and EIT Hawke’s Bay Trade Training Awards Wednesday 21 May 2014 Taradale Town Hall The Apprenticeship Awards Ceremony was established in 1978 by the late Jim Callinicos who was the second president of the club and former president of the Motor Trades Association. Jim saw the need to recognise the achievements of these young people and as a result this annual graduation ceremony was established. Each year students and apprentices in Automotive, Carpentry, Electrical, Engineering and Hairdressing receive their certificates of achievement. The Hospitality Industry was introduced to the awards ceremony two years ago. Employers and representatives of the various trades sponsor prizes for the highest achievers. The over-all top apprentice receives the Mike Davis Memorial Award which is presented annually by his wife, Lola Davis. Mike was a former president of the club who died shortly after the establishment of the Awards Ceremony. Each year the Youth Committee organises a key note speaker. Among those who have addressed the meeting are Jim Bolger, former Minister of Trade, Dr Michael Cullen, former Deputy PM, John Key, then Leader of the Opposition, Robert Darragh, owner of Future Products.
