FUNDRAISING APPEAL
St. Patrick’s Mission Church in Whiteside, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia is in grave risk of being torn
down as a cost saving measure by the Diocese of Antigonish. Built in 1919 through the hard work
and personal sacrifice of our ancestors, this beautiful Catholic Church has served as an anchor in
the life of the community for almost 100 years. It has served as a faith foundation to our ancestors
bearing the names of Doyle, MacDonald, Cameron, King, Morgan, Shannon, Scanlan, McNamara,
Proctor, White, Walker, Cogswell, and others. St. Patrick’s Catholic Church is a place where
many members of area families have gathered to celebrate the most joyous occasions, and to come
to terms with the most difficult moments, in the life of this special community.
Out of respect for, and in celebration of, the memory of the deceased members of the Evanston,
Whiteside, Lower River, and Walkerville communities, many of whom lie at rest in the church
cemetery; The Preservation Society is seeking your financial help to save the church building
from destruction and to preserve it as a church.
To save St. Patrick’s Church, the friends of the church must provide for its financial well being.
Your donation will help to:
 put a new roof on the church (estimated cost:$27,000),
 address some needed window repairs (estimated cost: $3,000), and
 provide some modest operating funds for incidental annual church expenses
(estimated cost: $1,000 -$1,500 per year)
If you are able and interested to help save St. Patrick’s Mission Church from destruction through a
financial donation, please fill out the attached Donation Form and mail (or email) it with your
personal cheque to the Preservation Society at the address noted on the form.
We thank you in advance for your consideration of our request and for any financial support you
may be able to provide. May God be with you and your family!
Kindest Regards,
Karen Walker,
