R ESEARCH I NTERESTS

My research focuses on identity, motivation, and group processes. I am particularly interested in how social, cultural, and physical contexts influence these processes, and the consequences social interaction, health, and well-being.

My DPhil research focused on the motivations involved when people incorporate new group memberships into their identity, and how these motives can vary depending on the type of social group involved, the culture an individual lives in, and the structure of the physical environment. As a Research Fellow at Sussex, I focused on the influence of consumer culture on children's well-being, and how identity may act as a moderator of these effects. Now, as a

Research Associate at Cardiff, I am investigating the effects of education and social class on social attitudes and well-being, and the role of social identity processes in explaining these links.
