Infrastructure Charges for Residential Development From 1 July 2013, Brisbane City Council will increase its adopted infrastructure charges for some residential development types. Council’s current charges have remained unchanged since adopted infrastructure charges were introduced in June 2011. To reflect rising costs of infrastructure Council will amend its infrastructure charges for some residential developments by an increase of $1,000 per dwelling unit. The total adopted infrastructure charge for the Council and Queensland Urban Utilities networks will be: Residential - one or two bedroom unit is now $19,000 per unit Residential - three or more bedroom unit is now $27,000 per unit Accommodation (short term) - one or two bedroom unit is now $9,000 per unit Accommodation (short term) - three or more bedroom unit is now $13,000 per unit Accommodation (long term) is unchanged at $26,000 for three or more bedroom dwelling units and $18,000 for one and two bedroom dwelling units. As the adopted infrastructure charge for detached dwellings is levied on the reconfiguration of a lot application this increase means that the charge per lot for reconfiguring a lot is also increased to $27,000. Council will continue to support development in Brisbane by ensuring that these charges remain less than Queensland Government’s maximum standard charge rates. The adopted infrastructure charge for non-residential development remains unchanged. The increase will affect those applications decided from 1 July 2013. Any Adopted Infrastructure Charge Notices issued on or before 30 June 2013 will not be impacted by this change. Before paying the adopted infrastructure charge, you must request an itemised breakdown showing the adopted infrastructure charge payable at the time of payment.
