Role Profile – Grade 5 ARE Researcher 1B Job Title: Researcher 1B Generic Post Title: Researcher 1B Reporting to: Professor School/ Department: School of Health and Life Sciences, Centre for Living Job Family: Academic, Research Enterprise Grade: 5 Main Purpose of the Role: To contribute to specified research project/projects with direction from the lead researcher/researchers. To facilitate the timeous completion of research projects. This post contributes to two ongoing research projects, with direction from the lead researcher: 1. Adapting a falls prevention exercise programme with and for older people with visual impairment: a feasibility study (NIHR PHR) 2. Phase I feasibility study of the Functional Fitness MOT: engaging older patients of a physiotherapy service in healthier levels of physical activity (Edinburgh and Lothians Health Foundation) This post will facilitate the timely completion of these two research projects including study organisation and governance, recruitment, data gathering and data analysis. Summary of Activity: Examples of role specific activity include: Study 1 - Liaison with Visibility (Charity) and the Low Vision Clinic at GCU; Consent and Recruitment of study participants and project management liaison with Northumbria University (2nd site); Baseline and follow up assessment of study outcomes (quantitative); Data Analysis. Study 2 – Liaison with Lothian NHS MSk Outpatient Clinics; Consent and Recruitment of study participants (at the Clinics in Edinburgh) and project management liaison with NHS Lothian staff; Baseline and follow up assessment of study outcomes (quantitative); Running small focus groups with study participants and staff delivering the MOT; Data analysis; Writing up paper for publication. Examples of generic activity include: Contribute to the development of research design. Contribute to the generation of original ideas based on outcomes. Conduct literature and database searches. Continually update knowledge in area of specialism. Prepare reports and present findings to lead researcher and internal colleagues. Assist in the production of papers and presentations for committees and conferences. Attend and contribute to relevant meetings. Liaise and network internally and externally to exchange information for effective working with research partners. Plan personal day to day work profile to achieve the outcomes of the specified research project/projects. Participate in the work of the research team. Professional qualification in relevant Application subject (physiotherapy). Qualifications Skills, Knowledge & Competencies Experience of conducting RCT research and management of RCTs. Publications in peer reviewed journals. Application Good understanding of quantitative research methods and data analysis. Training and experience of qualitative research data collection and analysis. References Evidence of good written and oral communication skills; ability to summarise and present qualitative data analyses.
