STANLEY FURNITURE WINS TWO PINNACLE AWARDS FROM
AMERICAN SOCIETY OF FURNITURE DESIGNERS

Judges Honor Company’s Coastal Living Resort
and Young America MIX Collections —
(STANLEYTOWN, Va. – Oct. 31, 2011) Stanley Furniture Company, a leading designer and manufacturer
of quality, stylish wood furniture, recently received two Pinnacle™ Design Achievement Awards from the
American Society of Furniture Designers (ASFD) for its Coastal Living Resort and Young America MIX
collections. ASFD presented the 2011 Pinnacle Awards, which recognize furniture introductions that
demonstrate superior style and performance, on October 24 during the Fall 2011 High Point Market. A
panel of 12 judges evaluated award entries in four areas – Form & Function, Innovation, Retail &
Manufacturing Benefit and Consumer Benefit -- and selected Stanley’s Coastal Living Resort line as the
winner in the category of Major Collections and the MIX line from the company’s Young America brand as
the Juvenile Furniture category winner. This fall’s ceremony marks the first time that Stanley has won
awards in both of these categories in the same year since ASFD developed the Pinnacle Awards program
in 1995.
“The Pinnacle Awards are the furniture industry’s highest design honor, and we are extremely proud that
the judges deemed Coastal Living Resort and Young America MIX worthy of this recognition,” said

ASFD bestowed its 2011 Pinnacle Award for Major Collections to Stanley designers Richard Schroeder,
ASFD; Denis Kissane, ASFD and Gary Hokanson for their creation of the Coastal Living Resort collection,
a transitional whole-home product line that offers a more global interpretation of coastal style. The line,
which features products in 10 seaside-inspired tones, includes bedroom, dining, home entertainment,
home office and accent pieces, enabling consumers to incorporate the casual elegance of coastal living
into virtually any room of a home. In their evaluation of the collection, the Pinnacle judges commented, “
When it comes to the best of show, the Coastal Living Resort collection at Stanley Furniture translates an
impressive designer approach to relaxed living at an exceptional value. Eclectic design elements come
alive in mixed media plus a range of subdued colors.”

Schroeder and Kissane also received the 2011 Pinnacle Award for Juvenile Furniture for their work on the
Young America brand’s MIX collection, which provides parents with a selection of simple, sleek children’s
bedroom pieces that include both vintage and modern design elements. Featuring five finishes and 17
paint options, MIX allows parents to mix and match the collection’s pieces and colors to create a custom
look that highlights their kid’s personality. In addition, the line’s functionality plays a major role in its
customer appeal with practical attributes, such as a mobile desk with inline wheels and storage pieces
that contain pullout surfaces, helping to increase the furniture’s usefulness and flexibility. The MIX
collection also gives parents peace of mind thanks to Young America’s made in America story and
SafeT3™ design strategy, which includes safeguards like tip restraints, drawer stops and adjustable
levelers that aim to prevent potential accidents in a home.
According to the award judges, the MIX collection’s combination of style and function led to its Pinnacle
achievement: “In the juvenile furniture category, MIX by Young America provides an abundance of
versatility and storage in a small footprint. The collection has a youthful feel, but has adult substance
through its retro look plus broad attraction for both sexes. The judges admire the clear natural wood
finishes and the updated allure of the storage pieces.”
