授業の目標 Course Objectives
The aim of this course is to provide the advanced knowledge of the lightwave sensing, the optical sensing and testing
technologies utilizing the wave properties of light. The lightwave sensing has several advantageous features, such as noncontactness, non-destructiveness, high-speed, and high-resolution. This course will provide the attendee with the techniques
of the lightwave sensing. The attendee will also learn some detailed examples of the lightwave sensing in the fields of
interferometry and polarimetry.

授業計画 Course Schedule
(1) Fundamentals of sensing technology (1weeks)
principle of the metrology, transducer, sensing system
(2) Properties of lightwave (2weeks)
Maxwell's equation and wave equation, wave properties of light
(3) Optical Detection (4weeks)
basic optical detection process, photovoltaic detector, photoconductive detector, thermal detector, Shot noise and thermal
noise,
detection limit
(4) Polarimetry (5weeks)
properties of optical polarization, principle of polarimetry, birefringence measurement, ellipsometry
(5) Interferometry (3weeks)
sub-fringe interferometry, phase shifting method, optical heterodyne method, temporal and spatial coherences
