P-E-E Analysis Name _________________________ Read the Exemplary Short Response below. a) Circle the POINT. b) Underline the EVIDENCE. c) Draw a box around the EXPLANATION. Question: According to the article “Loss of Culturally Vital Cattle Leaves Dinka Adrift in Refugee Camps,” how has the war affected the Dinka? Cite evidence from the article to support your thinking. According to the article “Loss of Culturally Vital Cattle Leaves Dinka Adrift in Refugee Camps,” the war has affected the Dinka. “They were the South’s richest and proudest tribe” (paragraph 9). In this quote, it says “were” – as in, they used to be rich and proud, but now they have lost everything and had to start a new life. “Dinka see the animal as the highest form of wealth. Today, some Dinka retain their cattle, but many have lost their herds, which were killed in fighting or abandoned during the rush to camps for the displaced” (paragraphs 11 and 12). The cattle are what made the Dinka rich, but since they lost their cattle to the war, they lost their wealth and are poor and sad. –M.T.
