Sustainable Choice – DRAFT – Media Release
[insert council name] Council commits to sustainable purchasing
[insert council name] Council today announced that it had joined the Sustainable Choice
program, a sustainable purchasing initiative for Local Government in NSW. The move
reinforces Council’s commitment to achieve better financial, social and environmental
outcomes by purchasing sustainable products and services.
Across NSW, the Local Government sector spends approximately $9 billion per year on
products and services for our communities. This represents a powerful force to help drive the
market for sustainable product and service availability for all.
“Council has committed to sustainable purchasing to help save money, reduce our
environmental impact through our purchasing decisions and support our local businesses” said
Mayor [insert Mayors name].
“Every product and service we use has social, financial and environmental impacts. By
choosing more sustainable products and services we can reduce the demand for energy,
water as well as reducing landfill by making a sensible sustainable purchasing decision in the
first place”.
Mayor [insert Mayors name] declared “[insert council name] Council feels strongly that setting
an example of responsible corporate citizenship and factoring environmental considerations
into day-to-day operations and purchasing activities is fundamental to organisational
sustainability. Sustainable purchasing just makes sense”.
[insert council name] Council is committed to a quadruple bottom line approach, and
sustainable purchasing is an important element in this effort. Sustainable products are those
