Neuropsychology faculty conduct clinical neuropsychological exams and innovative research projects examining the influence of traumatic brain injury on neurocognitive and neuroimaging outcomes among young athletes. Most frequent diagnostic categories of client population include, patients diagnosed with traumatic brain injury including mild TBI (e.g., concussion), moderate to severe head injury (secondary to trauma or disease process). Additional neuropsychological assessment will be conducted for pre- and postsurgical epilepsy candidates; as well a children with other pediatric neurological conditions related to chronic medical illness (e.g., congenital heart disorder, toxic exposure, spina bifida, neurofibromatosis, etc..). DIRECT/INDIRECT SERVICES Exposure and training in the following areas of clinical and research training will be provided: administration and scoring of neuropsychological assessments, evaluations examining neurodevelopmental status, case conceptualization and literature review. Trainees will also be involved in medical chart review, school consultation, multidisciplinary consultation, and clinical feedback sessions. SUPERVISION/TRAINING Each week, 1 hour of individual and 2 hours of group supervision is provided. Trainees will have access to hospital-wide didactic opportunities (e.g., Grand Rounds, Children’s Brain Conference, CHLA and/or USC conferences). Interested trainees can also attend brain cuttings/autopsies with neurology fellows and weekly neuroscience meetings. PREFERRED/REQUIRED DAYS Fridays are mandatory for Neuropsych Didactics 4:00-6:00pm. Clinic days: Monday, Thursday and Fridays. Tuesday – Optional but highly encouraged: Brain Cutting 2:30pm, and Children’s Brain Conference 4:00pm (bi-monthly). VACATION/TIME OFF To be determined with supervisor. OTHER INFORMATION Due to the need for advanced assessment skills, applicant will only be considered if they already have completed ONE YEAR of formal training in assessment either in a clinical placement or employment (e.g., Psychological or Research Assistant).
