3. AmeriCorps Project Description:
Washington Reading Corps (WRC) members will engage in direct-service literacy tutoring
(one-on-one or in small groups) to Tier II students in an elementary school, early learning or
community-based setting. Members will engage in any or all of the following activities and
projects to strengthen the WRC program: support of WRC tutees during classroom reading
instruction, support recruitment of community volunteer tutors for programs before and after
school, enhance or create community volunteer recruitment systems, develop or expand
existing volunteer recognition program, promote and encourage peer and cross-age tutoring
opportunities, work with English Language Learners and coordinate activities to increase
English proficiency, family and community involvement events and projects, donation
solicitation, and build community-based literacy resources that can be shared within and
between schools.

 Routinely refer to Member Service Agreement requirements
 Tutoring of Tier II students (not Tier III or intensive students)
 Volunteer recruitment of community volunteers
 Participate in and develop family engagement activities and events

5. Performance Measure Expected Output(s) and Outcome(s):
Please refer to your project application regarding # of students to be tutored and make
benchmark/grade level; volunteers recruited, hours of service and family engagement
events. Goals should be member specific.

6. Member Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
 WSC members may be deployed to help support disaster response and/or recovery
efforts. Sponsor organizations must agree to release Members for short term duration to
assist with these efforts. Deployment may be waived if it presents undue hardship for an
individual member. All deployments would be requested by the WSC unless your host
organization is a disaster response organization where any requests for deployment
would require initial approval by the WSC.
7. Qualifications required for this position:
Must be 17 years of age or older, a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident Alien.
