Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences Research Building The AHSSRB is an exciting new initiative, which provides an opportunity to develop collaborative research in the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. It builds on the achievements of researchers in the College of Arts, Social Sciences, and Celtic Studies and the College of Business, Public Policy, & Law, and on the reputation the Moore Institute for Research in the Humanities and Social Study and the Whitaker Institute for Innovation and Societal Change (formerly CISC) have both acquired as major contributors to Ireland’s international research profile. The AHSSRB occupies a position at the centre of the NUIG campus, beside the James Hardiman Library. It will be fully operational in autumn 2013, housing Humanities and Social Sciences research postgraduates, Visiting Fellows, Postdoctoral Fellows, staff from the Moore Institute and the Whitaker Institute, and other funded research entities. It will also incorporate the Humanities and Social Sciences Digital Analytics Hub as a high performance computing facility shared by Humanities and Social Sciences for digital resource creation and training. In addition to its emphasis on transdisciplinary research between the Humanities and Social Sciences, the AHSSRB has a mission to develop strong links to regional and national creative arts communities and cultural institutions. It is home to the Library’s important body of archives, providing enhanced access to these and to its Special Collections. The Library is currently engaged in digitization of a number of its archives and in a long-term partnership with the Abbey Theatre involving digitization of its complete archive. Among other recent developments in Digital Humanities and Social Sciences is the creation of the Measurement Instrument Database for the Social Sciences (MIDSS). The AHSSRB has been jointly financed by the HEA under PRTLI5, and by NUIG, through donations from the University Foundation. This research investment of over 16 million euros has been jointly supported by the Higher Education Authority under the Programme for Research In Third Level Institutions Cycle 5, and by NUI, Galway, through donations from the University Foundation.
