UNIT-II CHROMOSOMAL STRUCTURE AND ORGANIZATION.(15 Hours) Chromosome Organization in prokaryotes Chromosome Organization in Eukaryotes. Nucleus in prokaryotes and Eukaryotes. Euchromatin and Heterochromatin Morphology of Chromosomes. Structure of specialized chromosomes – polytene and lamp brush. UNIT-III MENDEL’S LAWS ( 15 Hours) Mendel’s Experiments – Factors contributing to the success of Mendel’s Experiments. Law of Segregation assortment – Monohybrid ratio. Law of Independent assortment – Dihybrids, Trihybrids. Derivation from Mendel’s Law – Partial or Incomplete, Dominance, Codominance. Penetrance and Expressivity, Pleotropism. Epistatic gene interaction – Modified dihybrid ratio’s(12:3:1; 15:1; 9:3:4; 9:6:1; 13:3) Genes and Environment – Phenocopies. Pedigree Analysis. Pedigree construction, Autosomal dominant, Autosomal recessive. UNIT-IV LINKAGE and CROSSING OVER(15 Hours) Linkage and Recombinant - Discovery of linkage cytological proof of crossing over recombination. - Frequency and map distance - Interference and coincidence. - Crossing over in Drosophila Mechanism of Sex determination – Genetic balance theory – Drosophila Environmental control of sex determination-Bonelia, Lizards.
