Career Conference will help you focus your energies.
This two-day conference will include workshops and seminars on career options, career planning, and
personal development, as well as programs of study to advance your career choices. Guest speakers from
many professions will be available to answer your questions.

Saturday
Careers in Environmental Services
Saturday, 9:00 a.m.
CC-01
Career opportunities are available in waste management, pollution control, and recycling. Panelists include
representatives from major consulting firms as well as industry leaders.
Interviewing Techniques
Saturday, 9:00 a.m.
CC-02
Resumes may get you the interview, but interviews get you the job. This workshop covers appropriate
attire, effective responses to commonly asked questions, and highlighting your strengths.
Actors’ Workshop: Getting the Job
Saturday, 10:30 a.m.
CC-03
This workshop gives you information on how to increase the odds of landing jobs. Topics include: acting
jobs--where to find them; casting executives--who they are and what to do; and dramatics classes--what to
take to enhance your career.
Advertising: Basic Functions and Practices
Saturday, 11:00 a.m.

This workshop introduces participants to the fundamental practices of advertising and related areas. Topics
include marketing and advertising, advertising’s role in the economy, creativity in advertising, production,
account services, and public relations. Educational background and career paths will also be discussed.
To Be A Teacher: Opportunities and Rewards
Saturday, 1:00 p.m.

Seven teachers with experience in public and private instruction at all levels will discuss the rewards of
teaching, educational and licensing requirements, and career paths.
Career Options in Social Work
Saturday, 2:00 p.m.
CC-06
Topics include kinds of jobs available, career planning, and educational and licensing requirements. This
workshop will be taught by a licensed social worker from the Department of Child Services.
Nursing Careers
Saturday, 2:30 p.m.
CC-07
Courses needed, career paths, and opportunities in this rewarding profession will be discussed. Guest
speakers include two registered nurses from St. Luke’s Medical Center.

This seminar explores starting career positions in programming, data communications, and software
development. Degree requirements, courses available, career paths, and options will be discussed. Guest
speaker will be Mary Larsen, Professor of Information Systems at Whitmore College.
The Fashion Makers: Careers and Opportunities
Sunday, 10:00 a.m.

Meet, learn from, and question contemporary fashion designers. Guests include designers and officers of
well-known apparel corporations.
Financial Analysis and Accounting Careers
Sunday, 11:30 a.m.

Topics include the role of the financial planner in today’s economy, educational requirements, career paths,
and opportunities in this exciting field. Discussion will include careers in auditing and accounting.
Starting a Career in Travel and Tourism
Sunday, 2:00 p.m.

This introduction to the exciting world of travel and tourism includes tour operations, travel agencies, and
career paths. Guest speakers include Robin Jones, author of A Complete Guide to the Travel and Tourism
Industry.
Hotel and Food Management
Sunday, 3:00 p.m.

This seminar will focus on careers in the hospitality fields, including certificate programs in hotel and motel
management, food and beverage management, and hospitality accounting. This seminar will be taught by
industry professionals with many years of teaching and business experience.
