MIFAB, Inc. CHAPTER 9 CHAPTER 9 CLEANOUTS CHAPTER 9-1 CLEANOUTS MIFAB, Inc. CHAPTER 9 CLEANOUTS Cleanouts provide access to drainage piping for cleaning out purposes. Since there are a variety of sizes, shapes and materials available, certain considerations must be made when selecting the right cleanout for installation. MIFAB’s cleanouts are designed to have immediate access without the need of special tools. They are also designed to reseal after the cleaning of the drain line. A. Suggested Cleanout Specifications a) All local codes and guidelines should be followed. b) Cleanout connections should be the same size as the drain pipe up to 4”. c) Cleanout connections should have a 4” connection for drain pipe larger than 4”. d) Vertical cleanouts should be installed as near as possible to the inner face of the wall through which the drain passes. e) A cleanout should be installed where a trap is located in the building. f) One should be installed at the foot of each vertical sanitary or storm stack. g) At the end of drainage lines. h) And where a drain line has a change of direction of 45 degrees or more. i) Cleanouts should be at intervals of no more than 50’ on horizontal drain lines up to 4” and no more than 100’ on larger size drain pipes. CHAPTER 9-2 CLEANOUTS MIFAB, Inc. CHAPTER 9 B. Floor Cleanouts a) C1000 and C1100 Series all use the A1 body b) All the cleanout top assemblies provide a 4” diameter access opening. c) The various top assemblies have a neoprene gasket under the cleanout cover that eliminates sewer gas escape. i. It can be visually inspected that the cleanout cover was correctly resealed because the cover will sit low in the frame when the neoprene gasket is not installed. d) All cleanout tops that are designed to be flush with the finished floor have scoriated top to eliminate the chance of slipping. e) The C1000 and C1100 Series have an O-ring secondary test seal. i. The O-ring (CO-2) is shipped with the top assembly. CHAPTER 9-3 CLEANOUTS MIFAB, Inc. CHAPTER 9 f) C1000 and C1100 Cleanout Tops i. R-1, -3, -4 are flush floor round tops ii. RC-1 has a round top with a carpet marker. This allows the cleanout to be installed in a carpeted area. The carpet marker allows the cleanout to easily be located. iii. RFC7/9-3 is a cleanout top with a surface membrane (or flooring) clamp. iv. S-1, -3 are flush floor square tops. v. TS-1, -3 are a flush floor square top with a tile recess. 1. Approximately .10” recess. vi. UR-1, -3 are a flush floor round top with a terrazzo tile recess. 1. Approximately .68” recess. vii. US-1, -3 are a flush floor square top with a terrazzo tile recess. 1. Approximately .68” recess. viii. XR-1,-3, -4 are flush to the floor heavy duty round tops. ix. XS-1, -3 are flush to the floor heavy duty square tops. g) C1200-C-R Series i. Isolation floor system is a secondary floor on top of the structure that is designed to have slight movement. This is most commonly used to minimize noise throughout the building. Some local codes also require this type of flooring in seismic region. Isolation Floor System ii. The assembly has an A1 body and cleanout on top for installation to the top flooring. It then has a neoprene expansion compensator and a second A1 body that connects to the cleanout assembly that is located on the upper flooring. The second A1 body is used to connect to the drain system. The neoprene expansion compensator allows movement in between the two A1 body assemblies. 1. Same setup as the F1600, F1620 Series. CHAPTER 9-4 CLEANOUTS MIFAB, Inc. CHAPTER 9 h) C1220 Series i. Typically used in applications where a flange and membrane clamp are not needed. Typically in a prefab floor with a core out hole. ii. Has a plastic plug that is installed in the cleanout body for a secondary air tight seal. 1. C1222, 3, 4 use an A4 body with an R-1, -3, -4 cleanout top. a. Any C1000 or C1100 cleanout top can be substituted. 2. C1226, 8 are for larger when larger access areas are needed. i) C1230 Series i. A top assembly that directly connects to the drain system without the need of a drain body. j) C1300 Series i. Floor access covers. They are installed in the floor to allow access to components within the floor. 1. Can be used to access a cleanout, gas line, water line, etc… ii. C1310 Series fits over a cleanout pipe and is installed in the flooring. It does not directly connect to the drain pipe. iii. C1300-MF Series fits over the pipe with anchor flanges. It does not directly connect to the drain pipe. k) C1500 Series is a floor cleanout that has a inside caulk connection. i. It uses the H-1042 wrench to open the cleanout. l) C1600 Series is a floor drain, cleanout combo drain with a p-trap. i. It is the same assembly as the F1130C Series. C. Cleanouts For Vertical Pipes, Wall Cleanouts a) Are installed in vertical pipes to allow access incase a vertical drain line is clogged. Many come with a access cover that creates a clean finish on the wall. b) C1440-RD Series is a stainless steel access cover that comes with a bolt for installation. c) C1430 Series has a threaded (NPT) brass plug for the drain line and a access cover. d) C1440 Series uses an expandable plug to seal the drain line. The plug has a threaded cone shape plastic insert that expands the rubber outing when tightened. This creates a seal inside of a standard end of pipe. i. The C1440-R, -RD, -S use the same plug and come with different access covers. CHAPTER 9-5 CLEANOUTS MIFAB, Inc. CHAPTER 9 e) C1450 Series either connect to the drain line with a no hub connection or a PVC socket connection. They are available with nickel bronze or ductile iron covers. i. C1450-R, -RD, -S use the same plug and come with different access covers. f) C1460 Series comes with a section of pipe with the cleanout port and a C1430 brass plug. This allows a cleanout to be added to the vertical drain line by adding the section of pipe. i. C1460-R, -RD, -S use the same plug and come with different access covers. g) C1470 Series is a vertical cleanout assembly designed for hub and spigot installations. i. The assembly comes with a C1430 brass plug. ii. The body has internal threads for a test plug. CHAPTER 9-6 CLEANOUTS
