Western and Eastern medicine In this research paper, I will answer the following research question: How are concepts of Eastern and Western medicine used in Thailand? I will explain about Eastern medicine, Western medicine, and what are the differences for both of them. First of all, eastern medicine focuses on human’s nature and body function in order to give a medical treatment to patients. One well-known eastern medicine is oriental medical techniques such as acupuncture, cupping, and herbal therapy. These techniques have been developed through practices and observation. They have been used for a long time as a treatment for both physical and psychological symptoms like headache, allergies, cancer, insomnia, anxiety, and so on. This medicine is not similar to western medicine. For western medicine the belief of this medicine is that disease comes from pathogen that has negative effect to human body. This may bring the western medicine relies on industrially produced medicine and scientific process. Before providing medicine to patients, the medicine has passed processes of data collection, observation, and evaluation of phenomena. Some cases have to pass laboratory modification. The western medicine is used for surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, and physical therapy. This is about western medicine. As mentioned, eastern and western medicine are different. Eastern medicine uses inductive method that finds ways to treat patient through observation whereas western uses scientific method. Therefore, the medical treatment of eastern use acupuncture, cupping, and herb. Oppositely, western use antibiotics, chemical treatment, and operation. However, western medicine requires more sufficient data and experiment before giving a treatment to patient. All of these formations show differences of eastern and western medicine. In my opinion, I like eastern medicine more than western one because it hurts less. With a use of needles, cups, and herbs patients do not have to take many medicines that might have some side effect. The eastern medicine, such as acupuncture, cupping, and herbal therapy, has been created for thousand years, it helps people relax, use less time to get better, and the cost is cheaper. These are all the reasons that why I prefer eastern treatment to western treatment even though western treatment has to pass experiments to confirm results and it is more modernize. In conclusion, all of this information has explained about the concept of eastern and western medicine and their differences. The differences are about diagnostic method, treatment, and medication. Eastern medicine use needle, cup, and herbs to cure patients; this makes them hurts less, pay cheaper, and take less time to get better. On the other hand, western medicine uses antitoxin, chemical treatment, and surgery to heal patients, and these treatments sometimes have some effect to patients. Therefore, I prefer the eastern medicine. (Medicine , MD 2014 , pharmacy © Chinese Medicine Works Acupuncture 2011) Reference: MD, P. F. (2014 ).
