Media Contact: Kevin Kent, kevin.kent@flaffa.org D'Angelo Wins State Agricultural Proficiency Award ORLANDO, Fla. – Florida FFA is pleased to announce Tyler D'Angelo of the DeLand FFA Chapter as the winner of this year’s Sheep Production Proficiency Award. D'Angelo and the other finalists of this award were recognized at the 85th annual Florida FFA State Convention and Leadership Conference this past June. D'Angelo and the top four finalists received awards sponsored by Central Florida Fair, Inc., as a special project of the Florida FFA Foundation. Tyler D’Angelo had a desire to begin an SAE project when several of his friends had their own projects. Shortly afterwards, he purchased three Hampshire cross Ewes to begin his own project, with the hope of growing his herd. He saw the opportunity to make money, as well as an opportunity to succeed at livestock shows. He has a desire to show quality lambs at shows across the southeast. As his SAE grew, he began selling lambs to FFA members for their own projects. All while insuring that he was raising the best product to sell. He kept a watchful eye on EPD’s and growth efficiency of the animals that he purchased, raised and sold. Today he has nearly 37 head of ewes, market lambs and stud rams. He hopes to continue is herd and build relationships with other sheep breeders throughout Florida. D’Angelo is a member of the DeLand FFA Chapter. His advisor is Brett Bradner. Other finalists in the Sheep Production category included: Darby Hastings, Durant Sydney Birely, Pine Ridge Dakota Stanford, Pine Ridge The Florida FFA Agricultural Proficiency Awards program recognizes outstanding student achievement in agribusiness gained through establishment of a new business, working for an existing company, performing agriscience research or otherwise gaining hands-on career experience. It serves as the award structure for an FFA member’s Supervised Agricultural Experience (mandatory for all FFA members) and is designed to develop specialized skills in over 30 categories that they can apply toward their future careers.
