Final Play Script
Introduction scene:
Yash(sweeping a table in shop): Hope today is a good day. Business isn’t going as well as I
thought it would go. The paintings.. they aren’t so bad are they? I would definitely buy them.
Why can’t other people see the value in them. (pause and then look at his watch) Aah! Long
day.
(Phone rings, Yash picks it up) Yash: Hello? Oh yes… Yes, I do understand that you’ve been
lenient. I will make sure to pay the rent fee by next week.. Yes, thank you very much for being
considerate.
(Art Collector Couple and Gallery Owner interaction)
Eddie: (knocks on the door twice) Hello anybody here?
Yash: Just a minute! (puts down duster and runs to the door) Hello! Come on in. Make
yourselves at home!
Jessica: Thank you. How are you doing?
Yash: I’m doing just fine. People are sure starting to visit the gallery more lately.
Eddie: Is that so? That’s wonderful! Your quality of art has really been increasing, no wonder
people are starting to notice. What are you showcasing today?
Yash: Well I’ve just acquired a rare collection of artwork from ...
Billionaire Couple Scene and Conflict:
Yunsun: Ugh, I don’t want to touch that doorknob… It probably has a lot of germs on it. Where’s
the butler? Someone open the door for me.
Ishan: What kind of gallery is this? Someone open the door!
Yash: (with a perplexed look on his face moves towards the entrance): I’m sorry, I’ll get that for
you.
Eddie: (Opens the door)
Yash: (Looking at Eddie): Thanks
Ishan: About time curator, here you go (hands Eddie his coat)
Yunsun: Making us wait outside (hands Eddie her coat)
Eddie: Uhhhh, but I’m not…
Yash (Gives Eddie an approving nod)
Jessica: (puts hand on Eddie’s shoulder in order to soothe and reassure him) It’s alright, calm
down.
Yash: Good morning everyone! Today, we have a special tour going on where you have the
chance to view all of the rare collections here. Follow me.
Ishan: Wait, you don’t have any wine or anything here?
Yunsun: A tour without wine?!?? How am I supposed to endure all of this.
Yash: Oh yes how could I forget (hands couples the wines)
Jessica: Your hospitality is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Yash: Here we have works of art from the Renaissance period.
Eddie: Wow this is amazing, such masterful brushstrokes and technical expertise!
Ishan(says to Yunsun in her ear): Rena what?
Yash: And here we have our most modern piece of work, created around 2 months ago. Nobody
knows who made it but it’s one of those youthful pictures that everyone’s crazy about these
days.
Yunsun: Oh… Did you say modern? I like the vibe that I’m getting from this.. It’s so modern…
And so shiny..
Ishan: Wow, finally a painting not made by some ancient people.
Jessica: I’ve yet to fully capture the meaning behind modern art.
Yash: Here we have pieces from the Baroque period
Jessica: Wow, I can’t believe you have this piece from Diego Velázquez!
Yunsun: What the heck is a Baroque period? What, was everyone broke back then or
something? I don’t want art from a period when everyone was poor. Next!
Yash: And here we have our most rare painting, this piece has been handed down from
previous generations. It’s a family heirloom, and my most treasured piece
Jessica: This piece must surely be of great value if it’s been in your family for so long. How is it
exactly that your family came to possess such a great piece?
Yash: This piece is basically priceless. It was my great grandfather who saved it from Nazi
occupied Germany and since then it has been lying here in this gallery being passed down
generation by generation.
Ishan: Priceless? Screw that. How much does it cost?
Yunsun: This so called “art” is too old for it to be priceless. It’s not even shiny.
Eddie: (with a face filled with disgust): I’m sorry sir but is this the first time you have visited an
art gallery?
Jessica: Just look at the color scheme and details in the brush strokes! Are you sure you aren’t
willing to part from this piece?
Yash: No (shaking his head) I’m sorry ma’am but this work is not for sale.
Eddie: I’ve never seen a more beautiful piece of artwork! I must have it! I’ll give you $200,000
for it!
Yunsun(with a serious and stern cold look towards Eddie): $300,000!
Yash: I’m sorry ma’am but I have no intention...
Eddie: Three hundred? $500,000!
Yash: Sir...
Ishan: Wait, why the hell are we bidding?
Yunsun: Oh I don’t know. Because that guy started it. I’m an impulsive buyer. Ishan, could you
please buy this for me?
Ishan: Say no more, 1 million.
Yash (in shock): Uhm… Sir are you being serious?
Ishan:(takes his cheque book out and starts scribbling) If there’s one thing I take seriously, it’s
money.
Jessica: Do you people just throw your money around?
Yash: Sir.. Your offer sounds extremely generous but I’m sorry… I cannot sell this painting, I
cannot betray my ancestors because…..
Ishan: 10 million.
Jessica: Are you being serious right now?? You guys don’t even understand art!
Yunsun: Who cares? We got the money for it.
Eddie (looks at yash, shakes his head and whispers to himself): I’m outta here. Jessica lets go!
(Moment of pause)
Yash: (mumbling to himself about the moral this is and then says): Sir, you’ve put an offer in
front of me that can completely change my life. My store hasn’t been doing well and this ought
to change it. Though my conscience may go against my decision I have to accept your offer.
Yunsun(grabs Ishan): Money over family any day. Thank you soo much sweetheart!!
Yash: Alright let me just wrap this up for you then you should be all set.
(Yash wraps the painting and takes the cheque from Ishan. Ishan and Yunsun take the painting
and leave the art gallery)
Night Scene
Yash: Hey Eddie. I think we’ve hit the jackpot this morning.
Eddie: Hey Yash, how real was my acting today? Did I seem desperate for that painting?
Yash (chuckles): No, you could be more desperate.
Eddie(walking around the store): How much do you think this one would sell for?
Yash: EDDIE, Come here sit down, Have a beer with me.
Eddie: Sorry, I can’t, have to go out for dinner with Jess tonight.
Eddie(on his way out putting his jacket on): Anyways, remember to put the money in my
account. We’re thinking about going to Paris for our anniversary!’
LAST SCENE - BACK AT ART GALLERY NEXT WEEK
Yunsun: I can’t believe I left my Hermes scarf here. Oh my god! I have to touch the doorknob
again. Hello, is anyone there? Pfft still no butler. (Knocks on door)
Jessica: Hello, welcome… oh shi….
Yunsun: (give a surprised look) Thanks (walks directly to Yash)
Eddie: (signaling/whisper to Yash) It’s the same woman! What do we do?
Yash (frowning as if he has seen her before but can’t recall): Have I seen her before? (sigh) Pfft
I’m getting old. I’m sorry ma’am are you here for a tour?
Yunsun: No I’m here to look …
Yash: Most definitely ma’am please come in. I’ll show you all the paintings we’ve got.
Yunsun: Wait what? I just wanted my...
Yash: So here we have paintings from the Baroque period.
Yunsun: No I don’t want to look at these paintings. I just..
Yash: I’m sorry ma’am I’ll take you right to the rare art collection.
Yash: (unveils the painting)
Yunsun: (looking for scarf and not paying attention to what Yash is saying)
Yash: (clearing his throat) Eh hem. Ma’am, here we have our most rare painting, this piece has
been handed down from previous generations. It’s a family heirloom, and my most treasured
piece. Also I’m sorry to inform you ma’am but this piece is not for sale.
Ishan: (Storms in) - Why did you take my Ferrari? I’ve told you, no woman should ever touch
that car, that’s why you have the Porsche!
Eddie: (Pulls Yash aside while Ishan makes a big scene about his car) It’s the same couple that
we fooled last week.
Yash: Oh shit
Jessica: We should try to say that this painting is part of a series by the same artist. That’s why
they look similar.
Yash: No we are all going to get arrested, let’s get them out of here
Yunsun: (finally looking up and in disbelief) Wait… What?? Isn’t that the painting we bought last
week?
Ishan: No honey we bought a lot of paintings last week. I don't think I recall this one. But I really
like it though
Yash: There is no possibility that you’ve seen it before. This painting has just been recently
found, it’s from my ancestors and has been passed down to me. I don’t plan to sell it for
anything
Ishan: 10 million
