Bi-Lingual Caseworker: Out of Home Care

Full Time: 38hrs/week

Creating Links is a growing not-for profit community organisation that focuses on developing dynamic, resilient, confident and inclusive communities and families in Metropolitan Sydney.

Our Out of Home Care program is a newly established service to provide safe and nurturing home environments, as well as case management and support services for children and young people who are unable to live with their birth parents.

The caseworker position also includes the recruitment, assessment, training and support of foster and kinship carers to support the healthy development and protection of children and young people. The position requires flexible work hours, including after hours, weekends and on call, and involves significant travel within the Sydney Metropolitan area. This position has a primary focus on working with children and carers where Turkish is their first language.

Essential Criteria:

Relevant tertiary qualifications (for example Social Work, Psychology)

Excellent knowledge, understanding and experience of working with families with complex needs.

Fluency in Turkish as well as English.

Experience in working with children and families from Culturally and Linguistically

Diverse (CALD) backgrounds.

A well-developed understanding of child protection, the relevant legislation and knowledge of research and theoretical frameworks for working with children and young people who have experienced trauma through abuse or neglect.

Relevant experience in undertaking comprehensive assessments.

A well-developed understanding of and ability to appropriately respond to the needs of people from all communities including Indigenous; Culturally and Linguistically Diverse

(CALD); and Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender (GLBT) communities.

Experience of report writing, using analytical skills.

Ability to prioritise competing demands and meeting deadlines while working independently.

Computer literacy.

Possessio n of a current driver’s license and working with children’s check

Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and some weekends.

Ability to meet the physical demands of the position (i.e. lifting children)

Desirable Criteria:

Experience of working in Out-of-Home Care

Experience of delivering training

First Aid Certificate

Turkish Caseworker – Out of Home Care

Purpose of Position

The Caseworker (Out of Home Care) is responsible for securing safe and nurturing home environments, and providing case management and support services for children and young people who are unable to live with their birth parents. The position also includes the recruitment, assessment, training and support of foster and kinship carers to support the healthy development and protection of children and young people.

The position requires flexible work hours, including after hours, weekends and on call, and involves significant travel within the Sydney Metropolitan area. This position has a primary focus on working with children and carers where Turkish is their first language.

Key Responsibilities

General

Manage a caseload, ensuring children and young people have a safe and stable home environment; including assessing and supporting their ongoing needs.

Provide support and supervision to foster and kinship carers and be involved with carer support groups as required.

Undertake comprehensive assessments of foster and kinship carers, using the approved frameworks including writing assessment reports

Deliver initial foster carer training program and additional training as required to foster and kinship carers.

Ensure all records/case notes are accurate and maintained in line with service, legislative, and Office of the Children’s Guardian (OCG) requirements, including the electronic casework system.

Participate in the on call roster as required.

 Make “risk of significant harm’ reports to the Community Services Helpline when deemed necessary in consultation with the Team Leader or Manager.

Work within the policies and procedures of Creating Links.

Collect and maintain demographic data as required by agency and/or funding body.

Staff- Workplace Practices

Meet regularly with the Executive Manager, Child and Family Services for professional supervision and case review.

Participate as a member of the team, to deliver services objectives.

Actively engage in fair and equitable work place practices and behaviours in accordance with legislative requirements.

To attend relevant training to ensure knowledge is up-to-date.

Follow Risk Management principles of hazard identification and reporting to ensure all hazards are reported to a Manager/Team Leader and/or a WHS (Work Health and

Safety) representative.

Work within the policies and procedures of Creating Links.

Participate in agency CQI systems, meetings and activities as required .

Communication

Develop and maintain network and collaborative partnerships with key agencies and community groups.

Develop collaborative relationships and work as part of a team in developing policies, strategies and tools.

Be responsible for informing families of the services obligations in relation to child protection, confidentiality and the Privacy Act.

Other Duties

Ensure compliance with Workplace Health and Safety policies and Service

Management Policies of Creating Links Co-operative Limited.

Perform other duties as required and negotiated with the Executive Manager, Child and

Family Services.
