The award recipients will have taken great strides to make a difference through perseverance and effort. Hammerman in honor of her son, Judge Robert I.H. Hammerman, Class of 1950, is awarded annually to the graduating Senior entering law school that combines academic excellence with outstanding qualities of leadership. Mikaela Dealissia The Christopher J. Pinto Memorial Award The Christopher J. Pinto Award was established by the alumni of the Tau Epsilon Phi Fraternity, members of the Class of 1984, and friends of the Pinto family. It is presented to a Senior reflecting the academic and leadership abilities and strong moral character of Chris Pinto, a member of the Class of 1984. Shaun McGovern Anna Wherry David G. Sandberg Award for Campus Leadership The David G. Sandberg Award for Campus Leadership was established in 1991 in honor of David G. Sandberg, a member of the Class of 1972. It is presented annually to an outstanding Junior who has demonstrated dedication to a variety of co-curricular organizations and activities. Frederika Lamar Dillion Ward The Class of 1979 Memorial Scholarship Dedicated to the memory of their classmates David Budzil, Ana del Castillo, and Daniel Yin, a scholarship is awarded each year to incoming seniors who best exemplify the high moral character, dedication, and commitment of these individuals. The Class of 1979 Scholarship is awarded each year to a member of the Junior class who is highly qualified in one or more of the following criteria: Academic achievements Athletic accomplishments Participation in Greek life Participation in ROTC Participation in other student life programs and activities George Bugarinovic The Christopher B. Elser Prize The Christopher B. Elser Prizes were established by family and friends of the Elser family as a memorial to the life of Christopher B. Elser, a member of the JHU Class of 2005. It is presented to a Junior or Senior reflecting the following attributes: Demonstration of active participation and commitment to community service A record of active participation and leadership in campus life and campus activities. A demonstrated passion for athletics Academic achievement Destiny Bailey Taylor D’Amore Alexander K. Barton Cup The Alexander K. Barton Cup is awarded each year to that member of the Senior class of any undergraduate department of the University who has faithfully served the interests and ideals of the University and who, by his/her character and influence throughout their collegiate course, has best exemplified the qualities that earned and held for Alexander K. Barton, of the Class of 1914 of The Johns Hopkins University, the respect and affection of his fellows, both during his course and his life outside. Raychel Santo Office of Student Activities Awards Outstanding Student Organization President Award Presented to a student organization president or equivalent who has led his or her organization effectively and efficiently, thus raising the bar for student organizations. Christine McEvoy, College Republicans Outstanding Student Organization Program Award Presented to the Homewood student organization whose creative and unique program or event set the standard for quality programming at Johns Hopkins University. Snow Day, Hopkins Organization for Programming Outstanding Student Organization Advisor Award Presented to a faculty/staff member who has made significant contributions to benefiting the membership of his or her organization. Kimberly Frankenfield Outstanding Student Organization Award Presented to the Homewood student organization which has made outstanding contributions to the campus community that are considered to be above the expectation of a student organization. JHU Politik Christopher F. Dugan Award for Excellence in Debate Presented to the outstanding graduating Senior Class member(s) of the Woodrow Wilson Debate Council in the hope that it will help advance the career of the recipient(s). This award was established by Dr. Stephen Yeagle (Class of 1970) as a memorial to the life of his friend Christopher F. Dugan, Class of 1970. Samuel Chirtel Campus Programming Awards The Blue Jay Pride Award The Blue Jay Pride Award recognizes a graduating senior who has made significant contributions, specifically in terms of campus programming, to enhance the lives of those within and beyond the Hopkins Community. The Unsung Hero Award The Unsung Hero Award recognizes a graduating senior who does not hold an executive leadership position; for the work they do behind-the-scenes. Through their work, they have made a positive impact on the lives within the Hopkins Community. Edward Lefkof Senior Class Awards The Gold Cup Awarded to a faculty member who has done exceptional work to enhance the academic experience of graduating seniors. Leslie Kendrick Sr. Lecturer, Whiting School of Engineering The Gilman Cup Awarded to a staff member who has shown considerable interest in and has contributed heavily to student life outside of the classroom. William Connor, Director of Dining Programs The Homewood Cup Awarded to a Homewood staff member who goes above and beyond their day-to-day responsibilities to assist students. Rachel Riddell Administrative Secretary, Office of Student Life The Homewood Award Awarded to a student-run organization that has had the most positive impact on campus during the year. PILOT Old Gold and Sable Award – The recipient of this award can be either a faculty or staff member. This award is meant to recognize individuals who have had a profound impact on students’ lives and are either retiring or leaving the university. Julia Galan Associate Director of International Studies Student Government Awards Student Excellence Award for Leadership and Service Staff Award Awarded annually by the SGA’s Student Excellence Award for Leadership and Service Committee to a deserving member of the Homewood staff, faculty or administration who has demonstrated a commitment to helping students in a meaningful way. Laura Foster Academic Services Administrator, Academic Advising The George E. Owen Teaching Award Awarded annually by the Student Government for outstanding teaching and devotion to undergraduates. This award was established by the 1982 Student Council to honor George E. Owen, who was dean of the Homewood Faculties. Stewart Hendry Professor, Neuroscience The Dunn Family Award Presented periodically to recognize a faculty or staff member of the Johns Hopkins University community who, beyond the classroom, has made an extraordinarily positive impact upon the lives of one or more undergraduate students during their enrollment or residence at Homewood. The award is made in honor of three generations of Dunns attending Johns Hopkins: Wendell E. Dunn, 1921; Wendell E. Dunn, Jr. B.E. 1943, Ph. D. 1950; Thomas B. Dunn, B.S. 1946 (Distinguished alumnus of the Peabody Conservatory); Wendell E. Dunn III, B.A. 1966. Noah Cowan Associate Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering Emerging Leaders Awarded by the Student Government to undergraduates who have made new and significant contributions to student activities or show significant improvement and development in their dedication to student activities. Debra Schwitzer, Phi Mu Greek Man of the Year This award recognizes the most outstanding individual male member of the Greek community. Andrew Griswold, Sigma Phi Epsilon Outstanding Greek Sophomore Award This award recognizes the sophomore fraternity and sorority member who excels in any of (but not limited to) the following areas: academics, athletics, campus activities, leadership, community service, and/or philanthropy. Jason Plush, Beta Theta Pi Outstanding Greek Junior Award This award recognizes the junior fraternity and sorority member who excels in any of (but not limited to) the following areas: academics, athletics, campus activities, leadership, community service, and/or philanthropy. Emily Glickman, Pi Beta Phi Paul Markakis, Phi Iota Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Chapter Award Excellence in Community Service & Philanthropy This award recognizes the men's and women's chapter that demonstrates the greatest commitment to the ideal of service to others often expressed in fraternity and sorority ritual. Alpha Phi Beta Theta Pi Department of Military Science Awards CPT Jonathan D. Grassbaugh Leadership Award Dedicated to the memory of U.S. Army Captain Jonathan D. Grassbaugh, a 2003 graduate of The Johns Hopkins University. A scholarship is awarded each year by the Department of Military Science to a junior or senior who best exemplifies Jon’s record of academic excellence, athletic prowess, and clear demonstration of selfless service and sacrifice. Lydia Liang President’s Trophy and Saber Awarded to the Senior Reserve Officer Training Corps Cadet who has made the most outstanding and significant contribution to the ROTC battalion and reflects those leadership characteristics required of an officer in the United States Army. Andrew Frazier Distinguished Military Graduate Awarded for placing in the top twenty percent of the national order of merit within the United States Army Cadet Command based on academic, athletic, and leadership excellence. Alexandra Tanzola The Military Order of the Purple Heart – National Leadership Award National Leadership Award is presented to a cadet that demonstrates extraordinary selfless service, enduring devotion and a high sense of duty to the unit, the U.S. Army and the Nation. Katerina Bierwirth Center for Social Concern Awards Urban Education Awarded to one CSC group and one individual for extraordinary service with urban schools or youth-serving agencies. Volunteer activities can include academic tutoring/mentoring and/or enrichment programs (art, physical education, etc.). Linda Poon Charm City Science League Urban Health Awarded to one CSC group and one individual for extraordinary service in urban health. Service can take place in clinical and non-clinical settings. Chumin Gao SALUD Unsung Hero Award For individuals whose quiet dedication and determination has succeeded beyond expectation. Marie Hepfer Baltimore Award For outstanding contributions to Baltimore and its citizens. These individuals or groups have made a deep investment in programs/projects that will have a long-lasting impact on the residents of Baltimore city. Samantha Ritwo Katherine Robinson Jail Tutorial Community Engaged Student Scholar Award (Graduate Students Only) Criteria: Awarded to a Homewood affiliated graduate student whose dedication to community engagement, through either teaching, community-based program development, and/or research has enriched the undergraduate student experience and established meaningful community partnerships. Scott Gottbreht Student Advocacy Board Award Awarded by the Student Advocacy Board to a community service organization demonstrating exceptional initiative and follow through in its first year of operation. Real Food Hopkins The Crenson-Hertz Award Established in honor of emeritus faculty members Neil Hertz and Matthew Crenson, is awarded annually to a Homewood affiliated faculty member whose dedication to community engagement, through either teaching, academic program development, and/or research has enriched student learning and established meaningful community partnerships. Claude Guillemard William Smedick Second Decade Society Florence “Meg” Long Walsh Second Decade Society Leadership Award Originally established by the Second Decade Society (SDS) in 1995, this leadership award was renamed in 1998 in memory of Florence “Meg” Long Walsh, an SDS member known for her independent thinking and leadership. Given to a graduating senior who has displayed outstanding leadership raising the public profile of the University, the award affords one year of post-graduate study abroad to further test and develop his/her knowledge and leadership skills in a broader international context. Charlotte James Office of Multicultural Affairs Awards Exemplary Leadership Award This award recognizes a student who demonstrates commitment to the JHU community and contributes positively to the personal enrichment and leadership of others. Brandie Morris The Chester Wickwire Diversity Award This award distinguishes the undergraduate student who promotes multicultural understanding and harmony on the Homewood Campus. Amanda Garcia OMA Director’s Award “People working together can accomplish anything.” The Director recognizes students who have given selflessly to support the vision of the Office of Multicultural Affairs. Thomasina Anane Chris Hampton Kimberly Hilson Frank Molina The “Greater Baltimore Community” Service Award This award recognizes the multicultural student that demonstrates exemplary service in the Johns Hopkins and broader Baltimore communities. The award recipient is one who creates initiates and/or participates in these communities by leading, volunteering or contributing to other service organizations. Linda Poon The “Owens-Hall-Bilgrave” Award This award is named after (3) former African-American JHU administrators who were strong advocates for the participation of students of color in campus leadership positions. This award recognizes a student whose commitment for diversity has been demonstrated by the ongoing and committed mentoring and/or support for students of color.
