special needs children. Grants and funding offered may be for anything from
disability equipment to accessible holidays, respite care or daily living aids. Each
charity aims to help families with disabled children financially as well as providing

Siblings of children with special needs : Sibling and Young Carer Support
Organisations
Barnardo's
Barnardo's runs projects to support young carers and their families in a variety of
ways. They provide opportunities for young carers to take a break from their caring
responsibilities, spend time with other young carers and share experiences.
Genetic Interest Group
They do a great free resource pack for siblings of children with a genetic disorder
that can be downloaded or requested by post. "Genetics? What's it got to do with
me?"

SIBS is a UK charity for people who grow up with a disabled brother or sister. They
support siblings who are growing up with or who have grown up with a brother or
sister with any disability, long term chronic illness, or life limiting condition. An
excellent site with all sorts of information.

KIDS
The KIDS charity provide Sibling and Young Carers Projects to provide support for
children and young people who have a brother or sister who is disabled.

A not for profit organisation part of the Dimensions charity, providing camping and
short breaks in school holidays for children with disabled siblings.

www.childnet-int.org - A non-profit making organisation working directly with children,
parents and teachers to ensure that the issues of online child protection and
children’s safe and positive use of the internet are addressed. Childnet International

www.thinkuknow.co.uk - The Child Exploitation and Online Protection (CEOP)
Centre has set up its own educational website which has been designed and written
specifically for children, young people, teachers, parents and carers.

www.getsafeonline.org/ A beginners guide to using the Internet safety, including a
quiz and some video tutorials about how to ‘stay safe’ on-line.

www.kidsmart.org.uk/ - Kidsmart is an award winning internet safety website for
parents and those working with children. It has been developed by the children's
internet charity Childnet International and has excellent information on many of the
technologies used by children, with guidance on how to ‘stay safe’ online.


information, advice, true stories and games. The resource page also contains a
number of links to other useful websites.

http://parents.vodafone.com/ - Vodafone have developed this website in conjunction
with mumsnet. It is very accessible and provides information and guidance to
parents with understanding their child’s digital world and get more involved. There is
even an on-line test to see how much you know!
