3rd Grade Math Lesson Plans Date: January 6-10, 2014 Monday No school Tuesday Anticipatory Set/Hook: Review multiplication strategies: repeated addition, drawing a picture, skip counting, arrays. We will / Objective: understand the relationship among skip counting, repeated addition and multiplication. I will /Product/Task: use known multiplication combinations to determine the product of more difficult combinations. Academic Language: multiplication, division, factor, product, quotient, equal groups, array Display SAB p. 14. Ask students to solve and show a strategy for solving their work. Once complete allow students to discuss with a table partner to share strategies. Students complete SAB pages 18 and 24 Discuss strategies used to solve story problems. Assessment: student responses, SAB pages 18 and 24. Anticipatory Set/Hook: Introduce how we can use multiplication to compare. We will / Objective: learn and apply multiplication facts through 12 by 12 using concrete models and objects. I will /Product/Task: use multiplication to compare objects. Academic Language: multiplication, division, factor, product, quotient, equal groups, array Students will complete a timed multiplication test (goal is 30 problems in 2 minutes) Students will complete problems from enVision Topic 6-3 – pages 122-123. Students will create their own story problem that involves using multiplication to compare. Have students solve their partner’s problem. Chose a few students to share their strategies. Assessment: student respsones, answers to pages 122-123 Anticipatory Set/Hook: Introduce using a T-chart/table to solve multiplication problems (see pages 126-127). We will / Objective: use tables to model multiplication situations. I will /Product/Task: will use tables to multiply. Academic Language: multiplication, division, factor, product, quotient, equal groups, array Students will use t-charts to complete “Table of W” page. Students use a table to complete problems from enVision pages 127-128. Critical Writing: Have students explain how to use tables/t-charts to model multiplication. Assessment: student respsones, Anticipatory Set/Hook: Review Multiplication strategies: Repeated addition, equal groups, arrays, tables We will / Objective: recognize and solve multiplication strategies. I will /Product/Task: use various strategies to solve multplication problems. Academic Language: multiplication, division, factor, product, quotient, equal groups, array Students will complete a timed multiplication test (goal is 30 problems in 2 minutes) Students complete problems from Envision pages 130-131. Have students create a multiplication problem of their own with an incomplete T-Chart. Students share their multiplication problem and T-Chart and let their partner solve it. Students work on multiplication flash cards, or multiplication games on teacher website. Have a few students share their multiplication problem and T-Chart that they created.
