TFHPC Newsletter Winter 2014 Hello everyone, JUST OVER 2 WEEKS TO CHRISTMAS!! So that means lots of fun and pony club activities over the holidays for everyone so…. Firstly GET WELL SOON BECK, who broke her leg after a nasty fall off her horse!! ALSO CONGRATULATIONS to Carys Rivers, Emma Kidley, Isabelle Berni, Katryn Jones and Sophie Parselle who all passed their mini road rider last weekend!! Dressage Over the winter both sunnybank and usk collage have held qualifiers for the dengie dressage area finals at Alps court, wenvoe on the 29th march. There are still some dates left for members to try and qualify at: Sunny bank equestrian center- January 3rd Usk collage equine- January 18th The first round qualifying tests are the pony club novice dressage test 2009 (this is roughly equivalent to BD prelim level) and the pony club intermediate dressage test 2013 ( this is roughly equivalent to BD novice level). The first four places will qualify for the dengie areas at Alps. Cross-country Seen as the majority of xc courses have closed over the winter due to the weather it is hard to get a little bit of xc practice in. However we have managed to book a rally at Leyland court for some arena xc. Which basically means there will be xc jumps set up in the arenas rather than out in the fields. The jumps range from 2ft3 to 3ft3 so you must be jumping comfortably at least 2ft3 to get the most out of this rally. This will be held on 17th February (Tuesday half term). Dismounted rallies At the rally on the 27th November, members: Carys Rivers, Ceinwen Williams, Emily short, Gabby Ayres, Katie short, Menna Evans Rhain Jones and Sophie Parselle achived their equine fitness badge and other members: Katryn Jones, Mari Rivers, Philipa Berni, Isabelle Berni and Zac Coxon achived their mini tack cleaning badge. Dismounted rallies are held at rudry village hall on a Thursday from half 6 till 8 unless otherwise notified, More dismounted rally dates have been booked for the upcoming months these are as follows: 18th December- Dismounted/social- fun, games and quiz with nibbles all members’,parents, friends and family welcome!! 29th january- dismounted rally including mini pony behavior badge and full equine behavior badge 26th February- dismounted rally including mini horse clothing badge and full knots badge 26th march- dismounted rally including mini carriage driving badge and worm control Efficiency tests Well done to those who achieved their riding and road safety badge this know allows you to progress on to your D+ standard efficiency test if you have been told you are eligible to sit it. Training will again be kindly hosted by Llangeinor pony club at Pencoed College in February the date is still yet to be confirmed. The sessions included a mixture of theory in the class room, practical on the stable yard for which boots, hats and gloves will be required and some riding practice. Members eligible for the training will be informed nearer the time. Mounted games Some of you members may remember Mollie Knight Eddins a previous member of Tredegar, Mollie has agreed to help with the games training so a date will be arranged for a games rally and for teams to be put together. If you are aged 11 and under on the first of January you are eligible as a junior rider or if you are 15 and under on the first of January the you are eligible as a senior rider you must be on a pony that is 14.2 and under to be eligible. Showjumping Primary qualifier rounds are currently taking place for the dengie winter league showjumping. The area final will be hosted by Tredegar farmers and will be held at sunny bank equestrian center on the 22nd march 2015. There are still some dates left for members to try and qualify at: Sunny bank equestrian center- 4th January Sunny bank equestrian center- 18th January Sunny bank equestrian center- 8th February The prelim qualifier rounds are jumps up to 90cm maximum (approx. 2ft11) and the area final jumps can be up to 95cm (approx. 3ft1). The first four competitors will qualify if there are between 0-40 entries, but the number of competitors that qualify depends on the number of entries in the class. So far we have heard that Callum Hard, Emily Short and Oliver Hard have qualified for the areas so well done to you three! NFU Mutual area quiz The area quiz this year will be hosted by the Llangeinor pony club on the 21st February. If you are interested in taking part please inform Kathryn. Practices will be arranged for after Christmas if you are interested. Teams consist of 1 member aged 12 and under, 1 member aged 14 and under, 1 member aged 16 and under and 1 member aged 25 and under. It would be nice if we could again send one if not more teams to the area quiz. Have a little look at the rounds and start swatting up The rounds for the quiz are as follows: Round one: the pony club Round two: recognizing horse aliments Round three: around the countryside Round four: breeds, colors and markings Round five: practical round Round six: travelling and road safety (in pairs) Round seven: know your spellings Round eight: picture round RENEWALS Don’t forget that memberships need to be renewed by 31st January.
