Paddle-Ability Symposium Information Pack insert Canoe England, in partnership with the Lake District Calvert Trust, are pleased to invite you to the first Paddle-Ability Symposium. This weekend of activities is for coaches who would like develop their knowledge, experience and understanding of working with disabled paddlers. The Symposium will provide an excellent opportunity for coaches to share ideas, experiences and their ideals. The Symposium will be split over two days; the first, primarily classroom based, will offer a range of workshops and networking opportunities as well as a ‘Question Time’ opportunity where delegates can put their queries to a PaddleAbility panel. The second day of the symposium offers delegates the opportunity to complete the Intermediate Paddle-Ability Module. Focus Sight Loss Awareness Training Birmingham based charity ‘Focus’ will deliver this workshop which will give delegates an insight into visual impairment and how this impacts on people experiences adventure activities. Workshop 1: Paddle-Ability Club Development Canoe England Disability Officer, Clarisse Smith, and Paddlesport Development Officer, Ben Seal, demonstrate the resources available to clubs hoping to develop their Paddle-Ability Programmes including Paddle-Ability Top club and GoCanoeing. Workshop 2: Paracanoe Classification This Workshop will be lead by ICF classifiers Julie Lowe and Viv Kendrick. Both Julie and Viv have been involved with classification since the birth of Paracanoe. This Workshop will inform delegates of the different types of classification and the classification process. Workshop 3: Adaption’s for Paracanoe In this Workshop Carme Adell will demonstrate how different Nations have developed different adaption systems for their Paracanoe athletes and how these help support the athlete’s needs. Workshop 4: Developing an Inclusive Training Programme Ollie Harding and Gary Quittenton are both club coaches who have worked with paddlers currently on the GB Paracanoe and Paddle-Ability Talent Development programmes. In this workshop they will discus how they have integrated disabled paddlers into existing club training programmes and sessions to form a fully inclusive programme. Intermediate Paddle-Ability Module The Intermediate Paddle-Ability Module involves both classroom and water based activities. The ‘next step’ from the Foundation Paddle-Ability Module this workshop develops the ideas introduced at Foundation Level. Question Time Questions should be submitted using the Paddle-Ability Question Time Form. These can be submitted by post together with the event booking form, by email before Wednesday 13th March 2013, or by had before 15:45 on Saturday 16th March 2013. All submitted questions will be reviewed following submission, those discussed will be selected in advance of the forum. The organisers will try to select a range of questions covering a number of subjects. Food and Accommodation. Lunch and refreshments will be provided on both Saturday 16th March and Sunday 17th March which is included in the Symposium cost. Delegates requiring food and accommodation on the evening of Friday 15th March and/or Saturday 16th March will need to organise this directly with the Hotel. Bookings and Conditions To book a place on the symposium delegates should complete the Paddle-Ability Symposium Booking Form and return it to Clarisse Smith, 18 Market Place, Bingham, Nottinghamshire, NG13 8AP by Monday 25th February 2013. We have tried to keep the booking fee to a minimum for delegates however, we do need to ensure that costs are covered for the event. With this is mind the booking fees will be as below: Member £55 for Saturday 16th March 2013 ONLY £55 for Sunday 17th March 2013 ONLY £105 for both Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th March 2012 Non Member £65 for Saturday 16th March 2013 ONLY £65 for Sunday 17th March 2013 ONLY £125 for both Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th March 2012 Payment of booking fees should be made by cheque made out to ‘British Canoe Union’, this should be submitted by post together with a completed booking form. Cancelations: Cancelations after Monday 4th March 2013 are non-refundable. Dietary, Additional Needs and Access Requirements Should a delegate have any dietary or additional access needs they must ensure that they inform the Symposium organisers in advance using the space provided on the booking form. If the organisers are not made aware of a delegates particular requirements it will not be provided at the event. Under 18’s Delegates under the age of 18 may attend the symposium at the discretion of the organisers. They will be required to submit a consent form completed by a parent or guardian. Consent forms will be emailed to delegates with their booking confirmation. The completed consent form should then be posted to Clarisse Smith, 18 Market Place, Bingham, Nottinghamshire, NG13 8AP and should have been received no later than Monday 11th March 2013. Any delegate arriving at the symposium without a completed consent form will not be allowed to take part in event activities.
