Thursday 15 August 2013 Arrangements to help resolve examination results queries – AS / A2 Q: I am worried that my results mean I won’t get into my chosen University, or my second choice Q: I want to re-sit some/all of my AS or A2 subjects. I have not applied to university or am thinking that I should withdraw my UCAS application A: Only UCAS and/or the university which made you a conditional offer can decide whether or not they wish to continue to support your application. Do: A: Consider just how “bad” your results are; resits are appropriate only if you narrowly missed target or predicted grades; if they are wide of the mark, or you generally found A-level study a struggle, you should seriously consider other routes for getting to university or into your chosen career. A-level study may not be right for you. 1. Speak to the admissions tutor at your chosen university (be prepared to wait, they will be very busy!) The more committed and determined you show yourself to be, the better your chances of persuading them to take you on with a slightly lower grade profile. 2. Check the UCAS website www.ucas.co.uk for advice about clearing and follow their instructions (Remember to use your own UCAS log-in/application reference details) 3. Look at our Bromley College website www.Bromley.ac.uk Higher Education links to check out our own HE courses, especially Foundation Degrees for which you may qualify. Q: I applied through the Moving Up process to study second year A-level in Sept 2013 but I did not achieve C-grades or higher in all my AS (or A2) subjects including those that I wish to continue to A2 1. If you got D-grades or higher in your AS or A2 subjects, you may be given clearance to enrol for A2 but this will be subject to your commitment to study for, enter and pay for AS resits in summer 2014. 2. If you got E-grades (or lower) in any of your AS subjects you must discuss with each subject teacher whether they will support your application to progress to A2 and get approval. Please note: You will be asked to submit an appeal form to put forward your case for being approved to study at A2. Please do this before you leave today – thank you. Be aware that your attendance, overall performance and the nature of any disciplinary/recovery history etc., may also be taken into consideration when staff are considering whether a place can be offered. Even if approved, you will only be eligible to enrol AFTER those students who have met the entry criteria have enrolled and subject to there still being spaces available. You will be contacted if a space is available and given a date/time to come and enrol if appropriate. All AS/A2 students will be expected to study at least two subjects as a minimum. 3. ALTERNATIVELY: Look at our Bromley College website www.Bromley.ac.uk under Courses, by subject. We have broad range of Vocational courses at Level 3 (A-level equivalent) that can lead you into a fulfilling career or take you on to a degree etc. Ask before you leave today about making an application. Dear Student We are keen to support all students at this busy and stressful time and can provide you with access to a limited number of computers on a firstcome first-served basis via the LRC at both Bromley and Orpington campus. LRC staff can provide you with a temporary guest log in so that you can access the Internet. Note that you may be charged for printing and rules about mobile phones or other noise may still apply! Additionally, please take note of College and LRC closing times – likely to be around 4pm – if you require prolonged computer access or need to be on the phone constantly, we recommend that once you know what you need to do, you go home and work from there, so that other students get a turn at using our facilities. Thank you and good luck.
