Production sites
Our production is mainly placed on the island of Funen. Furthermore we have
production on the islands north and south of Funen, on Seeland and also on the
east and north/west coast of Jutland. We also have a production unit in Germany for
the production of Hybrid Spinach. It is placed east of the Harzen mountains near
Halle.
Climate
The climate in Denmark provides ideal
conditions for excellent seed quality. The
summer in Denmark has moderate day
temperatures, cool nights, long day
length (because of the country’s
position on the 55th northern latitude)
and sufficient rainfall.
Generally the western parts of the
country has atlantic climate and the
eastern parts continental climate, but this
picture is modified because Denmark
is an archipelago.
The yearly precipitation is over 900 mm in the middle and western parts of Jutland.
In the coast areas of the Little Belt and Great Belt between Jutland and Seeland the
precipitation is around 500-550 mm. The rain is more or less even distributed
through the year, but as the evaporation is less in the cool months October to
March, the winter is the most humid time of the year.

___________________________________________________________________
July is the warmest month with a mean temperature over 17,5 C° in southeast and
just below 16 C° in the northwest of Jutland. A day temperature above 30 C° during
the summer is very seldom. January is the coldest period in Denmark, but the mean
temperature of 0 C° is more even throughout the country because of the warming
effect from the surrounding sea.

Planning of production
Using Google Earth in the
planning process
- we keep a
controlled isolation distance
between the fields before sowing to avoid
cross pollination. Also a good crop rotation
is made to avoid problems.
Field inspection
Our field inspectors are
controlling the fields
constantly during the
growing season.
All remarks are
registered in our IT-system
and reported to our customers
by weekly/monthly updates available
online.

Seed quality control
During processing we control the quality
constantly. When the quality fulfils our high
standards, the seeds will be packed and
sampled.
The final sample of the motherlot will be
controlled once more for purity and
germination by our own laboratory or by an
independant ISTA testing station.

Customers
Our main customers are the leading
vegetable seed companies in Europe,
U.S.A. and the Far East.
In 2013 Jensen Seeds A/S was honoured
with King Frederik IX’s award for
Excellence in Danish Export.
Processing
Jensen Seeds A/S continuously seeks to be in front with updated technology within
seed production industry machines in order to ensure the highest seed quality and
short delivery time.
The spiral separator classifies seeds according to their shape and ability to roll.
Round seeds roll better down the inclined flight and attain a higher speed than flat or
irregularly shaped seeds, which tend to slide or tumble.
The spiral separator is used for: Brassica seed - to separate damaged and flat seed
from round ones. Spinach - to separate Galium aparine (round) from spinach seed.
Grading is done by the gravity separator. The machine is used for separation on the
basis of specific gravity. The process will raise the germination by taking out the light
seeds and raise the purity by taking out stones, soil particles and other heavy materials.
To reach and follow the demand of high quality, seeds are more often sown by
precision drilling today. Sized seeds will also show a more uniform germination. The
sizing is done by a screen sizer normally with round holes.
All processes are in line from pre-cleaning, debearding, brushing, airscreen cleaning,
indented cylinder, gravity separator, sizing/grading and colour sorting. All processes
are controlled by computer.
Normally the weed seeds can be sorted out by the colour sorter, as there is a colour
difference between the good product and the weed seed.
We have 5 scanners available for upgrading purposes.

Seeking to be in front with technology
On basis of a draft made by Jensen Seeds A/S a specially designed Field Inspection
Program has been developed, which on site gives our field representatives the
opportunity to record observations from their field inspections from the date of
sowing to harvesting of the crop. The data is updated on a daily basis to the server.
In the office, the data is used in Jensen Seeds A/S’ own production planning, but it
is also used as an additional customer service, since this information can be
withdrawn by our customers through reports on Jensen Seeds A/S ' website.
This requires, however, a special log-in issued by Jensen Seeds A/S.
Available reports:
Crop and Purity
Germination Results
Statistics
Processing Schedule
Statement
Stockseed Report
The reports provide our clients with a thorough insight into the production plan of the
clients’ specific crop/varieties, germination results, expected yields and estimated
delivery time, etc., and can therefore be used as a tool in sales planning.

Here are two examples:
Since Jensen Seeds strives to have the best
technology, an industry-unique production
control program has been developed
and is used in the daily planning and
management of production flow.
In the production all forklifts have
terminals mounted that reads
signals from the handled, RFID
chip-tagged, boxes and places their
location in the flow via the signal from
the RFID-chips that are placed in the floor
at each production line and warehouse
location.
With this wireless registration the system is constantly updated and immediately
prevents errors in the physically handling of the seed and eliminates the risk of
technical mixtures. At any time the office staff can view the actual location and
status in the process of each crop/variety.
