Basil H. MacDonald 1930 - 2015 Obituary Condolences Basil H. MacDonald, 85, of Lexington, MA, formerly of Bedford, MA, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on May 11, 2015. Born in Holyoke, MA on January 14, 1930, he was the youngest of ten children of the late George E. and Catherine (Bowler) MacDonald. He was a graduate of St. Jerome High School in Holyoke, MA and attended the University of Massachusetts, Amherst where he earned his degree in business in 1951. Basil served his country in the United States Army and was based in Berlin, Germany until he was discharged in 1955. Upon his return, he worked as a defense contractor for most of his career and was involved in designing training simulators for the Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS). Basil was an avid sports fan and attended many Patriots games over the years. He enjoyed golfing, basketball, travel and was a master of the crossword puzzle. His engaging conversation, quick wit and pearls of wisdom will be missed by all. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Whalen MacDonald, three children, Edward J. MacDonald and his wife, Diana of Franklin, NH, Catherine MacDonald and Thomas Belanger of Shrewsbury, MA and Susan Daganhardt and her husband, David of Mansfield, MA, his sister, Martina Felkel and four grandchildren, Eric J. MacDonald of South Boston and Michael, Sam and Gus Daganhardt of Mansfield. He was predeceased by eight siblings. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Brigids Parish, 2001 Massachusetts Ave., Lexington, MA on Monday, May 18, at 10:00 A.M.
