SUMMARY
Please provide a summary of up to 500 words outlining progress over the past months (you may use this summary for your Work Stream 5 RJ4All.info project page update).
In July the final draft of the questionnaire to fulfil the fieldwork in WS2 has been completed and was sent to practitioners in the RJ field.
Besides this we wrote the WS2 interim report (Action Research and New Evidence). As our survey has not drafted yet, we concentrated on summarising evidence from
Germany that could be relevant regarding the production of material to improve victims´ safeguards in RJ services (protocols, guidelines, standards), the improvement
of skills and knowledge of professionals when dealing with victims (training materials, programmes etc.) and enhancement of cooperation to minimise the risk of
secondary and repeat victimisation (e.g. best practice guidance). We compiled respective results from surveys as well as from the analysis of the German legislation and
existing manuals, information material etc. A number of implications could be derived from this. The report and can be downloaded on the website The full report,
containing the facts that led us to these implications (and moreover containing the translated questionnaire) was sent to IARS in August and is available on the website.
In August we started researching RJ and victim support institutions and are working on building a database and compiling a mailing-list which we can use for spreading
RJE contents and finding as many participants as possible for our survey. Above that we discussed the feedback to the questionnaire which we received from
practitioners in the RJ field. The feedback was quite good and there were only few adjustments which we mostly included in the questionnaire. Additionally we started
planning/conceptualizing how to technically realise the survey in a way that makes it attractive to participate, makes it possible to prevent misuse and ensures safety.
We also translated the questionnaire into Spanish and Italian. We will be able to translate it also into Greek and Dutch, so we will be able to provide the questionnaire
in at least six languages).
The next step, which we started in September, was to transform the questionnaire into an online version with a respective program (Sosci, see
Restorative Justice in Europe: Project Progress Template
https://www.soscisurvey.de/index.php?page=home&l=eng), which so far could be completed for the German, English and Spanish version. Above that we continued
researching potential institutions for our survey in all over Europe. So far we researched around 600 institutions in Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Germany, Cyprus, the
Czech Republic, Romania, Spain, Slovenia, Poland, the Netherlands, Latvia and Estonia and Sweden. A cover letter to the institutions as well as a cover letter for the
victims have been conceptualized and are about to be edited.
Concerning dissemination we (re-)edited our Homepage, which now contains a lot more information about the RJE and other projects and about our staff. Additionally
we were offered to write another article for the TOA-Infodienst which we are editing at the moment. Further has Prof. Hartmann talked about the RJE project and the
EU Victims Directive to a group of around 30 practitioners within the context of the German “Jugendgerichtstag” which took place in Nuremberg between the 14th and
17th of September (https://www.deutscher-verein.de/front-page/termine/29-deutscher-jugendgerichtstag-vom-14-bis-17-09-2013-in-nuernberg/).
Project updates have been uploaded to the website and project meetings with the RJE staff have been hold in each of the reporting months.
