Potential Accidents or Hazards
Preventative Measures
1.

1a. No recognized hazard
1a. Do not use vacuum if exposed, frayed
wires, or missing grounding prong.
b. Electrical shock from cord/outlet
b. Inspect wall outlet to ensure faceplate is
installed and outlet is not broken.
c. Hearing loss from loud noise. Slip,
trip or fall hazard from electrical cord.
c. Wear hearing protection. Keep vacuum
cord out of walking working path.
2. Sweep/Mop tile floors.
a. Inspect broom, mop, bucket for
serviceability

2a. Do not use items if unserviceable.
b. Sweep assigned area
b/c/d. Back injury due to repetitive
motion, reaching, bending, stooping
and pushing bucket.
b/c/d. Trained in the proper use of Ergonomic
postures/ techniques. Stretch prior to

burns. Slip, fall from wet floor.
c/d. Read manufacturer label & SDS. Use
appropriate PPE. Dry mop. Use WET FLOOR
signs. Wear slip resistant shoes
e. If available, use motorized floor
equipment to clean floors.
e. Shock, burns from recharging
batteries. Crush/pinch/physical
injuries from replacing batteries.
e. Getting proper training prior to operating
motorized equipment. Perform Preventative
maintenance prior to operating equipment.
Know location of drench shower. Wear
appropriate PPE.
3. Trash removal
a. Empty trash cans.
3a/d/e. Strain to shoulder neck and
back from lifting, pushing, &
throwing trash, up to 45 lbs.
3a/d/e. Trained in the proper use of
Ergonomic postures/ techniques. Stretch prior
to performing duties. Inspect cart prior to use
for serviceability.
c/e. Lacerations from box cutter
(cutting boxes) and sharp objects in
trash. .
c. Wear leather gloves while cutting up boxes
and disposing of trash. Ensure broken/dull box
cutter blades are replaced. Close box cutter
when not in use.

c. Get mop bucket. Fill with water
and chemicals. Clean assigned area.

Recommended Training (documented): (1) General Office Safety (2) Back Safety / Ergonomics
principals (3) Bloodborne pathogen knowledge (4) Understanding of Material Safety Data Sheets
and maintaining of current notebook of same for public use. Use of drench shower. Report all
mishaps immediately.
Required PPE: (1) Apron; (2) Goggles; (3) Gloves to protect from chemicals, insects
