YFC Overview Youth For Christ began as an organization in 1945, with Billy Graham being the first full-time staff member. It has grown and spread throughout the years. Today there are 123 countries around the world in which YFC has ministry programs. Canada has 23 chapters, with Winnipeg being one of the largest programs in North America. YFC Winnipeg The Winnipeg chapter began in 1954. Its first objective was "evangelism of youth" by means of rallies, Bible clubs, and other means. Today we use mostly the "other means" but these programs were effective in those days in reaching kids. If you talk to any Christian who grew up in the 50s and 60s in Winnipeg, they will tell you that Saturday night rallies were the thing, with sometimes over a thousand people attending. Today, we enjoy the blessing of an amazing state-of-the-art facility (A Centre For Youth Excellence) in which thousands of teenagers connect with caring adults. Today our strategy involves utilizing a diversity of programs that effectively engages today’s youth sub-cultures. These include: Programs geared to Mainstream Youth across the City of Winipeg Camp Cedarwood The Edge Skatepark Turning Point Youth & Family Counseling Services Masterworks School of Performing Arts Programs geared to Youth At Risk mostly in specific Neighborhoods Programs geared toward youth in Rural Communities Work Force (North-End) Samson’s Wilderness Adventure Team (Elmwood) Samson’s Sports and Fitness Center Arborg YFC Carmen YFC – “The Back Door” Teen Parents Niverville YFC – “Cornerstone Youth Center” Selkirk YFC Drop-in Center St. Pierre YFC – “The Dug Out” Stonewall YFC These ministries are led by a collection of surrendered and transformed people who love God and love young people. They are convinced life is not about them, but all about Jesus. They embrace the outcast, empower the poor, strengthen the weak and seek the lost.
