Composition of Earth’s Atmosphere

EA is made up of nitrogen (78%), Oxygen (21%), and 1% of argon, carbon dioxide, water
vapor, and other gases, as well as particles of liquids and solids.

Nitrogen is the most abundant gas in the atmo.

Ozone (O3), a form of oxygen with 3 atoms instead of the usual 2.
Importance of the Atmo

EA make conditions suitable for living things.

Traps in energy from the sun and keeps most of the Earth’s surface warm enough for water to
exist as a liquid.

Protects from dangerous radiation from the sun.

Prevents surface from being hit by most meteors.
Layers of the Atmo

There are 4 layers (troposphere, stratosphere, mesosphere, and thermosphere)

Weather happens in the troposphere

We live in the troposphere

The stratosphere contains the ozone layer which protects us from harmful UV radiation.
