Victorian League Senior Coach – Men & Women

Position Description

WestVic Hockey are recruiting two coaches for the 2014 & 2015 (2 year contract) season.

Women’s Victorian League

Men’s Victorian League

In leading the program, the Senior Coach will work with the WestVic Committee, the respective Team

Manager and the respective Assistant Coach.

WestVic Hockey is based in Ballarat and plays and trains at the Ballarat Hockey Centre.

Specific responsibilities of the Senior Coach include:

 Lead and be responsible for the direction of the program, consistent with the WestVic Values and Player’s Charter.

 With assistance from the Club Officials and Assistant Coach, retain, recruit and develop players.

 Plan and implement the yearly program in association with club officials and the Assistant

Coach, including the structure and detail of each phase of training and each training session.

 Coach and be responsible for developing and implementing the game plan.

 Oversee the Assistant Coach in their role to implement the game plan on match day for the

Reserves team.

 Conduct full squad training for pre-season sessions and weekly Thursday night sessions inseason.

 Liaise with the Assistant Coach who will be responsible for conducting any additional weekly training sessions, pre-season and in-season.

 Communicate and provide feedback to players regarding their development, progress and performance.

 In conjunction with the WestVic Committee, determine a Selection Panel and be responsible for the weekly selection of the senior and reserve teams.

 Complete a match report each week.

 Build a relationship with the WestVic junior teams and liaise with junior coaches to consider the development needs consistent with the Vic League program.

 Liaise with the Assistant Coach to establish and maintain a collaborative and positive relationship with the Hockey Ballarat Premier League competition and any other regional association programs that are interested in being part of the WestVic program.

 Support the WestVic sponsors whenever possible and promote WestVic Hockey.

 If desirable, play for one of the respective teams, subject to form and fitness.

 Wear WestVic Uniform when coaching and be responsible of the standard of dress for all players and support personnel at training and games.

Structure:

WestVic Hockey is an affiliated Club with Hockey Victoria that draws players predominately from the regional associations of western Victoria. Hockey Ballarat is the predominant association that provides players for the WestVic program.

The Women’s and Men’s Vic League Programs feature a Senior team and Reserves team, with the following support personnel – in brief:

WestVic Committee

Responsbile for the operartions of the Club and the four programs – Vic League Men,

Vic League Women and U 16 Boys and Girls.

WestVic Senior Competition Coordinator

Responsible for liaising with the senior and assistant coaches to meet the requirements of HV and WV Hockey

Vic League Team Manager

Responsible for managing game day procedures and match reporting.

Vic League Assistant Coach

Responsible for coaching the Reserves team on match day, assisting with squad training and liaising with the Senior Coach regarding selection.

Remuneration:

The Senior Coach will be offered a financial remuneration commensurate with their skills and experience.

Travel – for non-Ballarat based coaches:

The minimum expectations for travel are as follows:

 Travel to Ballarat for 1 training session per week:

 Pre-season as determined by the program

 In-season Thursday nights (time TBC)

 Travel to Ballarat for home games, played on Saturday’s.

 Meet the team in Melb for away games, team travels together on a team bus.
