About your project… Briefly describe what you want to do, why and how you want to do it and your benefit indicators: (benefit indicators are outcomes you plan to achieve e.g. number of trees planted, volunteer hours worked, and area of land vegetated etc. Refer to Help Sheet 3). Overall goal and description: Project location (attach map): Gully Reserve, 4 Bush Street, Tauranga. Land ownership To eradicate and control pest weeds in the Gully Reserve. We want to remove these pest weeds to allow our local children to play in the reserve. This will also benefit the health of the children with the removal of the privet. (we will only fund projects with landowner approval) We have identified the following pest weeds – privet, blackberry, honeysuckle, moth plant, blue morning glory. Who is the land owner? Gully Reserve is administered by DOC. Benefit indicator: Area of land we are looking at vegetating is around 80m2. Has landowner approval been granted? (attach letter of approval from landowner) Environmental enhancement: The gully in the reserve has one of the few remaining stands of rata in the region but it is overgrown with weeds. Benefit indicator: Pest plants as above will have been removed from the 80m2 and 100 native trees will have been planted. Please attach Ministry of Education approval. Yes landowner application. approval from DOC attached to Community awareness: Resource consents We are going to hold a weed identification day so neighbours can learn about weeds and how to remove them on their properties. If you are unsure whether your project requires a consent please contact one of Bay of Plenty Regional Council’s Consents Officers on 0800 884 880 or your district or city council. We want to make an interpretation panel explaining significance of rata and the site and invite the local community to the unveiling of the sign. Groups visiting the adjoining Marae will be given an explanation of rata and its significance to the Marae. It is also celebrated through waiata. Benefit indicator: Interpretation panel will be in place and local community will have increased knowledge of pest plants. Community participation: The local Kura is going to grow trees, including plants important for rongoa, for replanting at the reserve. Members of our local church will hold a series of working bees to help remove weeds and mulch. The local service organisation will run a series of public planting days to replant areas where we have removed weeds. Benefit indicator: Volunteer hours of approximately 500 hours will have been undertaken.
