Monster Genetics (Make Your Monster)
Zandor is an Earth-like planet located in another solar system in another galaxy some 6.2 billion light
years away. One of the creatures that inhabits this planet is called the Kremulak (Monstrousitus
sargii). Kremulaks reproduce sexually and have diploid body cells and haploid gametes. Kremulaks
are fierce predators and have many adaptations that allow them to take down prey and defend
themselves from any creature bold enough to attack them.
Kremulaks have variability in many of their traits but some traits are common to all members of the
species.
All normal, healthy Kremulaks have 6 legs, 3 eyes, 2 pairs of ears, 1 mouth, and 6 fingers/toes.
Directions:
 Students will work alone.
 For each trait, flip a coin to determine which allele will go into the male and female gametes.
 Unless noted otherwise, Heads = dominant allele and Tails = recessive allele.
 In the spaces provided, write down the genotype and phenotype determined by the coin
tosses.
 Students will summarize their monster’s characteristics on the summary guide.
 On the paper provided, use phenotypes for each trait to draw and color the Kremulak.
