Design Projects:
All middle school students will be collaborating to complete a design project based upon the Smithsonian
Design Institute model. The projects will be focused on hurricane preparedness. This is an opportunity for the
students to use critical thinking, creativity and collaboration to produce a project prototype. All subject areas
will work together to assist the students in the completion of these projects. We are excited to have the
parents come out and view the presentations once the projects are complete!
Please sign up for Remind 101. This will allow you to receive text messages from your child’s teacher about
important information and reminders on weekly assignments. The information to sign up for each of your child’s
teacher will be sent home this week.

Fundraiser!
All school clubs will plan to meet with their students this week. More information for each club will be sent
home with your child if they have joined that club.
Sonic Night for Chateau is scheduled for this Saturday. More information will be sent home this week with
details or if there are any changes of the scheduled date.
Weekly Academics
6th Grade
Mrs. Braun:
6th Math: Student's will continue to work with ratios and begin solving for unit rates. Students need to practice different types of
fractions daily. We will have a “Speedy 5” on fractions every week. Quiz on Thursday on Ratio’s.
6th Science: Student’s will complete Unit 1 and will conduct an experiment using the Scientific Method on Friday. Please have your
child bring in 1 bottle of 4oz Elmer’s Glue for the experiment on Friday. Please check your child’s agenda for additional homework
assignments. Quiz on Tuesday on the Scientific Method. Current Events will be due on Wednesday. Unit Summative Test will be next
Tuesday September 22nd.

Ms. Kosteck:
6th ELA: This week students will complete station work regarding the Summer and Autumn sections of 1934 and Winter of 1935
section from Out of the Dust. There will be an assessment Wednesday on Winter 1935. Spring 1935 will be assigned for homework
over the weekend. Students will also continue working on their song analysis project as well as begin a design project on Hurricane
Katrina.
6th Social Studies: Students will complete Chapter 1 Section 3 this week. We will also go over together the difference between
geography and history and their relationship. Students will begin a project on a city, region, or civilization of their choosing and
connect the dots between the geographical influences on its culture. There will be a quiz Friday on Section 3.
7th & 8th Grade Weekly Academics
Dr. Baker:
7th Grade ELA: This week we will be reading chapters 10-15 of The Giver this week. Students were given books to read and take
home. Students will have to pay the cost of a replacement book if the book is damaged and/or lost. They will be working on
study questions, vocabulary, and a research assignment on Utopian societies in America. All vocabulary from the past two
weeks will be assessed on the Test on September 16, 2015.
8th Grade ELA: This week we will be re-reading chapters 1-3 of The Call of the Wild this week. Students were given books to read
and take home. Students will have to pay the cost of a replacement book if the book is damaged and/or lost. They will be
working on study questions, vocabulary and a writing assignment that will be due on September 23, 2015. All vocabulary from
the past two weeks will be assessed on the Test on September 16, 2015.
English I: This week we will be re-reading part one of Fahrenheit 451 this week. Students were given books to read and take
home. Students will have to pay the cost of a replacement book if the book is damaged and/or lost. Students will be working
on study question, vocabulary and a literary analysis assignment that is due on September 16, 2015. All vocabulary from the past
two weeks will be assessed on the Test on September 16, 2015.
Mrs. Rousselle:
7th Science: This week we will begin discussing the process of photosynthesis & respiration (aerobic & anaerobic). Students will
also be assigned their group challenge and begin their Design Institute Project. Our summative test on Elements and Atoms,
originally scheduled for this Tuesday, will be postponed until next week which will also include photosynthesis and respiration.
Homework is daily and is due the following day. Quiz Friday on Photosynthesis.
8th Science: This week students will begin Unit 2 on Earth’s Crust. We will focus for the next 3 weeks on the layers of the earth’s
crust, the theory of plate tectonics, identification of minerals, rocks and the rock cycle. Students will also be assigned their group
challenge and begin their Design Institute Project. Homework is daily and is due the following day. Quiz Friday on the Layers of
the Earth’s crust.

Mrs. Albano:
7th Social Studies:
Exploring Early American History continues with our thirteen colonies project. Oral presentations will not begin until next week. This
week, we will learn about National Hispanic Heritage Month and celebrate Constitution Day on Thursday. Towards the end of
the week, ask your student about specific details of our nation’s constitution. Current Events are due Friday. Next week, each
article must have a nationally connected topic. Homework is assigned daily. A daily quiz is possible. Please encourage the
students to check their agendas daily.
8th Social Studies:
Our study of Louisiana’s History continues with the exploration and development of Native American tribes found in Louisiana
and their usefulness to French and Spanish explorers. Students continue working on these projects and expect to be completed
late next week. Homework is assigned daily. A daily quiz is possible. Please encourage the students to check their agendas
daily. Current Events are due Friday and will need to focus on articles related to Louisiana events next week.
Ms. Zheng:
7th Math: Students will be reviewing rational numbers and will be starting a new topic on Ratio and Proportions this week.
Homework will be given every day. Quiz on Friday on this week’s lesson.
8th Math (Lions): Students will continue working on the topic of congruence in geometric relationships. Homework will be given
every day. Quiz on Friday on this week’s lesson.
Algebra I (Patriots): Students will continue with solving equations. Homework will be given every day. Quiz on Friday on this
week’s lesson.
