EVENT: 2017 UEFA Champions League Final ROLE: Marketing & Communications Manager - Cardiff 2017 REPORTING TO: Project Director – Cardiff 2017 CONTRACT TYPE: 16 month project role starting April 2016 SALARY: Competitive The Football Association of Wales (FAW) is the governing body of football in Wales and was formed in 1876. The FAW is responsible for promoting and developing the game at all levels from grass roots through to the professional game, including the Welsh Premier League and all international squads. The Events: The UEFA Champions League is the World’s most prestigious club football competition – “the best of the best on the ultimate stage”. In 2017, the UEFA Champions League Final will be the single biggest sporting event in the world, commanding a live global TV audience in excess of 200 million. In June 2015, UEFA’s Executive Committee announced that Cardiff would host both the Men’s and Women’s 2017 UEFA Champions League Finals and the FAW was appointed by UEFA to deliver the events’ wide ranging requirements. In order to deliver these requirements, the FAW has established a Local Organising Committee (LOC) – whose vision is based on three key principles; Engaging an entire nation; Delivering the best experience for all; and To leave a lasting legacy The Role: The 2017 UEFA Champions League Final will be the biggest sporting event to have ever been staged in Wales and will attract a significant amount of media coverage. The LOC has a key role to play in helping to positively promote the two finals and all other official events to the Welsh public, in order to deliver high levels of engagement, awareness, understanding and excitement throughout an entire nation. The LOC is therefore looking to recruit an experienced Marketing & Communications Manager who will be responsible for preparing and delivering an effective communications and marketing strategy which leads to the fulfilment of UEFA’s and the LOC’s wide ranging event objectives. Main Responsibilities: In addition to embracing the LOC’s Event Vision, the LOC’s Marketing & Communications Manager will be responsible for: - Preparing, managing and delivering the LOC’s internal and external marketing and communications strategy for Cardiff 2017; - Maximising the media coverage, public awareness, engagement and attendance levels for all Cardiff 2017 official events and key milestones which include: o o o o o o o o o 2017 UEFA Champions League Final; 2017 UEFA Women’s Champions League Final; 2017 UEFA Champions Festival; Trophy Tour; Ticket Sales Launch; Trophy Handover The Volunteer Recruitment programme; The “Road to Cardiff” community football programme; and The Welsh primary schools education programme. - Managing the LOC’s marketing and communications budget, ensuring value for money is achieved at all times whilst generating the requisite returns on investment; - Provide dynamic editorial content for all LOC communication releases, including those on-line and on social media - Reacting quickly but calmly to any problems and challenges, via the timely release of clear, concise and informative communication; - Ensuring compliance with UEFA marketing and brand guidelines at all times; - Positively promote the FAW and Welsh Football’s association with one of the World’s biggest sporting events at all times; - Working closely with the FAW’s existing marketing and communications teams on all matters relating to Cardiff 2017 including maximising media relations in order to generate positive media coverage of the events; - Achieving the LOC’s target attendance level for the 2017 UEFA Women’s Champions League Final; - Ensuring that UEFA’s target visitor numbers for the 2017 UEFA Champions Festival are surpassed; - Work with Head of Transport to prepare and communicate useful and timely travel related information for all event attendees; - Work with the Visitor Experience Manager to proactively promote the availability of accommodation in Cardiff and the surrounding region for all event attendees; - Prepare the content for the LOC event website which includes the “Official Supporters Guide to Cardiff 2017”; and - Provide support and assistance to other LOC Project Team members as and when required. The Person: The successful applicant will need to possess the following skills and experience: Track record of preparing and delivering a successful large scale communications and marketing strategy; Demonstrate a highly developed knowledge across all aspects of marketing and communications delivery; An ability to implement effective communication strategies across multiple channels;; Hold a professional marketing and/or communications biased qualification; Possess outstanding planning and organisation skills and be able to plan and prioritise competing work demands Demonstrate excellent written communication skills – including proofing and copy writing skills; Be calm and composed when working under pressure; Demonstrate an excellent level of IT literacy (particularly Microsoft Word and Powerpoint); and Have a full and clean driving licence.
