We have many jobs – large and small. GTAGS helps in the genealogy section of the Traverse Area District Library and at the LDS Family History Center. We have many committees that would benefit from your help. By spreading the jobs around it will make a light load for everyone. Consider lending a hand. An Early Settler Certificate is also offered to persons who can provide documentation of their ancestor’s residence, for the counties listed above, before 1860. The price is $8.00 • Cemeteries GTAGS has an ongoing project of reading, transcribing, and updating databases for cemeteries in the Grand Traverse area. • Genealogical Research GTAGS researchers will do genealogical research in any county in our service area. The price is $15.00 per hour plus expenses. • Obituaries A photocopy of an area obituary may be ordered for $3.00 each plus a SASE. The obituary collection is now housed at the History Center of Traverse City located at 322 Sixth Street, Traverse City. Phone numbers are: 231 995-0314 or Archives at 231 929-7663. The collection is open to the public during hours the Archives is open. Oakwood Cemetery The Oakwood Cemetery office is located at 806 Hastings Street, Suite J. The phone number is 231 922 4907. The cemetery is located a short distance away on E. Eighth Street. GTAGS contributions include microfilm copies of Oakwood Cemetery burial records and area obituaries. Grand Traverse cemetery books include Acme, Blair, Evergreen/Sparling, Fife Lake/Union, Green Lake/Long Lake, Mayfield, Peninsula and Whitewater Townships. Leelanau cemetery books include Cleveland and Solon/Elmwood Townships. Missaukee and Wexford County cemetery books are also available. Area newspaper indexes are available at the research desk. Their hours are Monday thru Friday 8:30 am - 12 pm and 2 pm - 4:30 pm GTAGS Cemetery Databases: Please be advised that future sales of the cemetery databases will be done in an “electronic format” only. This makes for a speedy cost effective transaction plus allows the purchaser to choose what information they would like to receive i.e. an electronic copy of previously published but now updated CD (Leelanau County, Grand Traverse Rural or Oakwood cemeteries) would each cost $35.00 and would be sent to an email address. However, a purchaser could request just a specific surname, a specific cemetery, etc; the minimum price would be $5.00. Of course, as with all the GTAGS publications these are the work product of GTAGS and thereby copyrighted (you cannot share your electronic copy with anyone else).
