CMSA USE TRAINING
Rules for the Central Materials Storage Area (CSMA)
Purpose of the CMSA is for disposal of refuse, recycling, hazardous waste disposal, material storage, heavy
truck/equipment storage and refueling.
Refuse and Recycling

Place items in the appropriate marked trash or recycle bins – Do not mix items.
Place scrap metal in scrap metal bin only, if the items is too large for the bin contact the property office.
Place scrap wood in wood bin only. If bin is full place wood in the designated staging area to the right of the bin.
Put cardboard into the cardboard compactor or if full adjacent to the cardboard compactor
Remove trash, packing material, plastic, or foam prior to placing cardboard in cardboard area.
5. Do not place tagged items into the metal dumpsters, trash, or recycle containers, Call Property (269-6270).
Hazardous Waste Disposal
1. Do not drop off used oil or hazardous waste. Coordinate delivery with Scott Conley at Ext. 269-7308. All
materials shall be labeled.
Material Storage
1. Do not store or remove property without notifying the property office and completing a property storage form.
2. Do not enter the Radcon designated area unless you have received RadCon approval.
Heavy Truck/Equipment Storage and Refueling
1. The material handling shelter key box controls truck and equipment keys for authorized drivers.
2. Return truck/equipment to the same place you picked it up at; avoid blocking gates, access points, fuel tanks, or
other equipment.
3. Red died diesel is for forklifts and portable generators only.
4. DO NOT use red died diesel in GSA trucks; diesel powered over-the-road heavy trucks must be refueled at offsite
commercial pumps. Consult with FM&L Admin (269-7400) for assistance.
5. E-85 powered GSA vehicles are labeled with an E-85 sticker next to the gas tank. DOES NOT use the E-85 pump
if an E-85 sticker is not on the GSA vehicle. New requests for heavy truck key access should be referred to
Manny Nevarez at Ext. 7406.
General
1. Screening of equipment in storage or free stock should be coordinated with JLab Property office at Ext. 6270.

Access to the CMSA is through the use of your J-Lab ID badge.

REQUIREMENTS FOR ACCESS TO THE CMSA:



Completion of CMSA Use training +Concurrence by the FM&L Property
Manager that the person needs access to this area.
Forklift Operators (SAF 502) must also complete CMSA Use training.
E85 Qualified (GEN 401KD) motor vehicle operators must also complete
CMSA Use training.
ENTERING THE CMSA:





Approach the yellow Access Control Tower with the “ASSISTANCE” label
by driving to the left edge of the road surface close to the tower.
Two card readers are installed on the tower; both card readers perform the same function. Use the
card reader that is most convenient to reach from your vehicle.
After a valid card read the sliding vehicle gate will open, wait at the tower until the gate is fully open,
then move to the right side of the road as you drive through the open gate.
If a vehicle is approaching to leave the CMSA, the exiting vehicle shall stop to allow the entering vehicle
to cross back to the correct side of the road.
The video intercom may be used at any time to speak to Security personnel in the Main Gate Bldg 51.
EXITING THE CMSA:





Approach the gate slowly on the normal left hand side of the driving surface.
The gate will begin to open when your vehicle drives onto the asphalt apron in front of the gate.
Wait until the vehicle sliding gate is fully open before proceeding.
Allow vehicles on the “wrong” side of the road to enter before you exit.
DO NOT open the CMSA gate for persons in their personal vehicles or anyone that is not authorized to
card access the CMSA. Immediately report unauthorized entries to Security using the Access Control
Tower video intercom stations. Please remain at the video intercom station until a mobile security
guard arrives so the guard can properly identify the unauthorized entrant.
