Research Classifieds – Student Expertise Please feel free to contact the student directly to discuss possible research opportunities NEW: Expertise: Epidemiology, zoonoses, public health Name: Jaimie Frazer Email: jaimie.frazer@uqconnect.edu.au Mobile: 0405187937 MBBS Year: 1 Prior Qualifications: BVSc (hons), MVPHMgt, MANZCVS(Epidemiology), PGDipPrevVetMed Years / Months of experience in this area: 8 years (2004-2012) How did you gain this experience? Coursework masters with research project in epidemiology, post grad diploma in quantitative methods, worked in veterinary disease surveillance, investigation and control (with zoonoses component) for 8 years. Passed membership exam for Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists (Epidemiology Chapter). Synopsis of the skill/expertise: Zoonoses, infectious diseases epidemiology, quantitative epidemiology (biostatistics, linear/logistic/poisson regression with mixed effects, also some experience with stochastic scenario tree models for disease freedom, BYM spatial models, infectious disease spread models and Bayesian analysis), outbreak investigation, disease surveillance and disease control. Most of these skills were used on the job in various roles investigating animal and human disease outbreaks, and in project work in preparedness for disease outbreaks (generally for internal government use). Some peer reviewed publications, conference presentations, posters have resulted (and many internal/nonpeer-reviewed). Specific large outbreaks I was involved with included the H1N1 pandemic response (secondment to New Zealand Ministry of Health) in 2009 and the Equine Influenza outbreak in Queensland in 2007. I also managed an Avian Influenza surveillance programme and an arbovirus surveillance programme, was a co-investigator on a project to create a stochastic scenario tree model for avian influenza freedom, and was scientific editor for a disease surveillance journal (so have experience with critical review of literature from an epidemiology perspective, and with scientific writing). Expertise: Medicinal chemistry, Synthetic chemistry, Microbiology, Cell culture Name: ERNEST HOCK LYNN TEE Email: ernest.tee@uqconnect.edu.au Mobile: 0413704194 MBBS Year: 1 Prior Qualifications: BBiotech (Honours) Years / Months of experience in this area: 2 years (2010-2011) How did you gain this experience? Voluntary work, Honours Research project, Research assistant Synopsis of the skill/expertise: I was involved in the chemical synthesis of novel drug candidates against GPCR receptors and new anti-bacterial targets. I was partially involved in the design of those drug analogues to explore the structure-activity relationship space (SAR). I have also had microbiological experience in testing those putative synthetic anti-bacterial compounds. I have two publications arising from my research experience:1) Tee, E. H. L.; Karoli, T.; Ramu, S.; Huang, J. X.; Butler, M. S.; Cooper, M. A., Synthesis of Essramycin and Comparison of Its Antibacterial Activity. Journal of Natural Products 2010, 73, (11), 1940-1942. 2) Karoli, T.; Mamidyala S.K.; Zuegg J.; Fry S.R.; Tee, E. H. L.; Bradford T.A.; Madala P.K.; Huang, J. X.; Ramu, S.; Butler, M. S.; Cooper, M. Research assistant Synopsis of the skill/expertise: I’ve been involved in diverse research projects. Notably, from 2007 to 2010, I worked as a research assistant in three cognitive psychology labs, which involved all aspects of research including inception, running experiments, data analysis, and drafting papers. From 2009 to 2010 I was involved in the NAPLS schizophrenia research and played a major role in performing EEGs and administering psychometric testing. From 2003 to 2004 research in Astrophysics involved computer simulation.
