3 - CountrySTAT: CMS in a nutshell 1 Introduction This document is the CountrySTAT CMS in a nutshell guide for version 4 and above. This guide will give you all instructions to access and manipulate statistical data using CountrySTAT. Page - 4 - CountrySTAT: CMS in a nutshell 2 Definitions 2.1 Core module and its domains Core module or National Statistics presents data per year at national level, corresponding to the concepts, definitions and other standard metadata by FAO. Domains list can be found in the Metadata area in each national CountrySTAT Website, as for Kenya : http://www.countrystat.org/home.aspx?c=ken&p=me , and more specifically domains list and its definition are available here: http://www.countrystat.org/resources/metadata_en.pdf . As a reminder, here is the name of the CORE domains: Production Trade Food Availability Prices Land and Irrigation Population Labor Fertilizers Pesticides Machinery Forestry Fisheries Water Value Added Page - 5 - CountrySTAT: CMS in a nutshell 3 Access to CountrySTAT Websites 3.1 Introduction There are 2 Websites accessible for CountrySTAT if you search for “CountrySTAT” in your preferred search engine: Corporate CountrySTAT Website in the FAO Website: you will found all you need about the different CountrySTAT projects, activities and news: http://www.fao.org/economic/ess/countrystat/en/; The CountrySTAT portal to all national CountrySTAT Websites containing statistics: http://www.countrystat.org. This document is all about accessing data through these National CountrySTAT Websites. 3.2 Accessing CountrySTAT national Website. Go to CountrySTAT home page (http://www.countrystat.org): Select your country Figure 1 – CountrySTAT portal home page From the top menu bar, you select your country by clicking on the name of the country. Page - 7 - CountrySTAT: CMS in a nutshell 4 Introduction to CountrySTAT Content Management System (CMS) version 4.0 This new version of the CountrySTAT is based on an open source technology for data dissemination called FENIX. CountrySTAT CMS offers the end-user (you) the possibility to access several kind of information: Statistical data (and associated metadata) organized in domain and sub-domains accessible through a data tree or a search engine; Key indicators of the country; Documents like publications, statistical yearbooks, meeting minutes etc…; Links to national Websites (ministry of Agriculture, National Bureau of Statistics etc…); Links to international Websites to international or regional organizations; Information on the National CountrySTAT secretariat and team; News and activities of the National CountrySTAT. Statistical data available in CountrySTAT are official national data validated by the Country through Technical Working Group. Page - 8 - CountrySTAT: CMS in a nutshell 5 Accessing statistical data in a National CountrySTAT Website 5.1 Accessing data through the data tree From the home page, you can access the main domains by clicking on the National Core. This also allows you to see more information about all the domains covered under the National Core to the right of the database. The list of datasets/indicators is then displayed: Export all indicators data in a zip file Quick View Indicator unique ID Indicator name Indicator dimensions Export indicator all data Figure 4 – list of available indicators per domain Display all data (see next section) You can directly export the indicator whole data by clicking on the CSV icon on the right side ( ). You can directly export data for an indicators by clicking on the Excel icon ( By clicking on the icon, you will display more details for each dataset: Page - 10 - ). Click on the to get the table with all the data: Figure 6 – table view of the selected indicator data Page - 12 - CountrySTAT: CMS in a nutshell 5.3.1 Refining data request From the list of available indicators per domain, you click on the chosen indicators to access it. Get the list of values for each indicator dimensions. You can refine the data you want to display. Export all data in CSV format Export table in CSV format Export table in Excel format Unselect all values (either for the selected dimension or all dimensions) Select all values (either for the selected dimension or all dimensions) Display data with the selection Go back to the previous page Page - 14 - CountrySTAT: CMS in a nutshell Once dimension values are selected click on to proceed with the table display. Table is displayed taking into consideration your previous selection Figure 8 – data table view of selected dimensions for the selected indicator Page - 15 - CountrySTAT: CMS in a nutshell 5.3.2 Tables / graph and maps From the previous screen, you can access to different kinds of graphs (bar, charts, lines) and maps when relevant. From the previous screen, you can manipulate the table and pivot it. 5.3.2.1 Tables and options for display Table is directly displayed after your selection: Two sets of tools are available to refine the table display: Configuration Click on “configuration” on the top of the table. Page - 16 - CountrySTAT: CMS in a nutshell Figure 9 – table configuration You can select to show total, change the format etc… If you click on the name of the dimension on the top of the table, you have access to option to refine the table displayed. You can select/unselect to hide/show rows or columns. Page - 17 - CountrySTAT: CMS in a nutshell Pivoting table To pivot table, you select one of the dimensions name above the table: Click on one the dimension name: here click on « product » Figure 10 – table pivoting Move the dimension name on the other dimension (“drag’n drop”) Select the “product” dimension. Move it as a column. The table is half pivoted. Repeat the operation for the other dimension moved as a row : Page - 18 - CountrySTAT: CMS in a nutshell The table is completely pivoted. The table is fully pivoted. 5.3.2.2 Graphs You choose to click on one of the following icons to get a graph. And from the left panel. 6.1 Documents You will find in this page links to complementary documents to the statistical data available in the system.
