Chief Executive Officer The Academy of Ancient Music seeks a world-class arts leader as Chief Executive. The CEO will lead an orchestra that sets the benchmark for the performance of baroque and classical music. The AAM has ambitious plans for its 40th anniversary in 2013-14 and beyond, and for the right candidate this represents a tremendous opportunity to shape the future of one of the world’s great orchestras. Introducing the Academy of Ancient Music “The finest period-instrument orchestra in the world” (Classic FM, 2012) “Transmitting the kick of an energy drink” (Financial Times, 2012) The Academy of Ancient Music exists to enrich people’s lives with historically-informed baroque and classical music at the highest international standard in live performance, on record and through educational work. Since its establishment by Christopher Hogwood in 1973 it has given concerts on every continent except Antarctica, and has won countless awards for over 300 recordings. Our Music Director Richard Egarr succeeded Christopher Hogwood in 2006. In 2012 we became Associate Ensemble at the Barbican Centre. The AAM performs between 60 and 70 concerts a year in London, in Cambridge, and on tour in the UK and abroad. As well as working with an outstanding group of guest artists, it has a roster of the world’s leading period-performance musicians who work freelance, a permanent staff of nine and a budget of close to £2m per annum. The AAM has recently established AAM Records, its in-house record label, to build on a distinguished catalogue of recordings made with Harmonia Mundi, EMI and Decca. Meanwhile the AAMplify new generation scheme, established in 2010, works to develop the audiences, musicians and arts managers of the future. This year the AAM marks its 40th anniversary, and gives its first full season as Associate Ensemble at the Barbican Centre – whose new concert hall at Milton Court opens this October. The orchestra will collaborate with Andreas Scholl, Richard Tognetti and Alina Ibragimova, begin a cycle of Monteverdi operas, release the first of its Bach Passion recordings and tour extensively in Europe and Australia. AAM Records releases its first CD this November, with several others scheduled for release over the coming months. The AAM enjoys an enviable mix of funding – from public sources, from private donors and from trusts and foundations. Our work was funded solely through the generous support of committed AAM Society members until 2011, when we secured regular funding from Arts Council England for the first time. This funding, worth over half a million pounds between 2012 and 2015, is a signal achievement in a climate of reduced public subsidy.
