FAQ’s re: AA-T/AS-T’s – aka ADT’s Topics: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Student told CSU they will achieve ADT but now won’t LIST B or C course substitution Completion in Summer GE Certification and ADT’s Achieve an ADT in a major different from major of application Achieve an ADT if not transferring to a CSU 1. The student indicated on their CSU Mentor application they would be achieving an ADT by Spring, however, they will not achieve that degree. What should they do? The student should contact the Admissions Office of each CSU to which they applied and tell them they will not be achieving the degree after all. The university Admissions Office can then pull that student from the “ADT group” and add them to the group of students pursuing general admission. 2. What if a student wants/needs to use a course for the ADT that is NOT on our degree as listed in the catalog/on Cabrillo’s website? Our ADT degrees were developed at a moment in time, in terms of what the lower-division majors requirements are on ASSIST. We do not want to penalize the student, and limit their ability to achieve an ADT because new articulation was established with a CSU after our degree was approved/printed. So, for the List B and C courses on our ADT degrees, if the CSU that the student has applied to shows a lower-division major requirement that is not on our Cabrillo degree, we can substitute that course . 3. Can a student complete the last requirement for their ADT in the summer? This is dependent on the CSU, and should be on their website. For many, the answer is “No”; all requirements for the ADT must be completed by Spring prior to transfer. Hopefully, the CSU Handbook will soon have a page where they have captured all this information in one place for us. 4. If a student is awarded an ADT, do they still need to have their general education certified? No, if they are transferring to the CSU, the ADT itself includes the CSU and IGETC Certification. If they student is achieving an ADT using IGETC, and transferring to the UC, they will still want to have their IGETC GE Certified (and must have completed the foreign language requirement). 5. Can a student apply to the CSU in one major and receive an ADT in a different major? Yes, and this happens most often with Engineering majors. There is no ADT in Engineering; but most Engineering majors have completed the work for either the PHYS AS-T or the MATH AS-T. Achieving a PHYS or MATH AS-T as an Engineering major will not give the student any benefit in terms of priority admission to the university, but gives them a degree before they transfer! 6. Can a student achieve an ADT if they are not transferring to the CSU? Yes. There is no harm in a student achieving an ADT even though they are not pursuing/transferring to a CSU, as long as they have completed the lower-division major preparation, general education and admission requirements for the UC. On the degree petition, you should write “No Verification needed” so the evaluators don’t take extra unnecessary steps for the student. cj 2-20-14
