To whom it may concern,
My name is Niyahnee, and I am an A/B student in Mrs. Coburn’s 5th grade class. Recently we
studied a natural gas developing system called fracking. Fracking is the process in which
fractures in the rock below the Earth’s surface are opened and widened by injecting chemicals
and liquids at a high pressure; and is used especially to extract natural gas or oil. As you must
already be aware of, there is an immense crisis on whether or not fracking should be allowed to
run without any regulations concerning it. But I think fracking should NOT be allowed. It is
dangerous to our health, another expense to our economy, and it just has a negative effect on the
economy in general.
I feel like the health of our human being is in danger The pollution we think is beneficial is
actually burning us and our wallets, and causing extreme pollution to our water, mostly because
the drills they use to frack are being built and put in incorrectly. This is the information we
researched in class. The main point of this letter is to get congress and other political or
lawmaking figures to make laws either preventing fracking, or safely regulating fracking. You
may or may not agree with fracking, but if you do there is one thing you must realize. No
disrespect, but if we continue to let fracking run without any supervision, yes, it will create jobs,
but because of the various health problems it causes, we won’t be here to work those jobs.
In class we created a website. On that website, we put a link to a survey for people to take. Here
are some results from the actual survey:
Do you think there should be laws,
rules, or safety regulations against
fracking?
80%
60%
40%
20%
0%
In the diagram above, you can see the results for one of the questions in the survey: Do you think
there should be laws rules, or safely regulating fracking? The results above state that 74% of
people strongly agreed, 21% agreed, and 0% was neutral, 5% disagreed, and 0% strongly
disagreed. These results show that a large percent is strongly against fracking. This survey, I
personally think is a wakeup call to many Americans.
Now that you maybe know a little more about fracking, we can all star coming up with
solutions to fix this problem. I think a good solution to regulating fracking might be that we run
off of solar energy. The sun is a renewable source, which means it can be used over and over
again, so we can put up solar panels, and stop drilling for natural gas, and burning coal. Another
solution is that we can get congress to make laws to regulate fracking, or prevent it altogether. If
congress can realize how deadly this can be, they might start making laws for it. A third solution
could be if we could recycle more. If we recycle more, natural gas companies wouldn’t have to
dig in the ground, or burn coal for energy.
Now you know more about fracking. In conclusion, I think fracking is dangerous, and needs to
be under some restrictions. Some oil drilling companies don’t follow up on their promises, and
they can keep the chemicals they use a secret. A lot of people are being payed to get their water
polluted, and how are you supposed to survive without water? That is why we need to raise
awareness, call fracking out on the scene, and ACT NOW! Thank you for taking time out of your
busy schedule to read this, and continue to have a nice day. I hope that you know more about
fracking than you did before reading this letter.
Thank you again, sincerely,
Niyahnee Mrs. Coburn’s 5th grade class
