Prophetic urgency for renewal
The message of God is active and alive (Hebrew 4:12). It cuts through the secret
thoughts of our hearts and exalts us to embrace holiness of life. Sometimes, this
message comforts the disturbed and at the same time disturbs the comfortable.
We experience this in our daily lives if only we open up our hearts to God.
Today’s reading particularly invites us to a life of grace, a life of holiness. The
condition for holiness is living a life free from sin. This explains why both John the
Baptist and Jesus both spoke about repentance in the gospel. Repentance is the
first step to holiness which requires sorrow for our sin (Psalm 51:17) and a
determined effort not to return to sin.
The Ninevites heeded Jonah’s call, they repented and were converted. Our life
style might differ from that of the Ninevites. Yet a thorough sincere self
examination of conscience calls for the urgency already ignited by our Lord: “The
time has come” he said “and the kingdom of God is close at hand. Repent, and
believe the Good News” (Mark 1:5). Let us not be self conceited, the time is
imminent than we could ever have imagined, this is the time for renewal – a time
for recommitment to Christ.

St. Benedict's School, Re Consultation on becoming an Academy.
We feel it is important to let our parish community know what is happening and to hope that you will wish us well in our endeavours to expand our horizons.
Parents of children attending the school at present are invited to a Meeting to be held at school on Monday January 26th.There we will explain the process and
implications and answer any questions.
Working with five local Catholic schools, we have had discussions that have led us to the idea of becoming part of a Multi Academy that will enable us to continue to
make good progress and become an Outstanding School. The DEF have informed all the local Catholic schools, that we have been approved to proceed.
The target to achieve Academy Status is March 2015.
We ask you to keep us all in your prayers.
Mrs S Shannon.

The Liturgy & the Care of the Church
News
Music
Looking to the future, is there anyone who has
keyboard (piano/organ) skills would be
interested in helping with music in the liturgy
especially on Sundays? Perhaps also we could
think about establishing a choir so that we
could begin singing other parts of the Mass,
such as the Responsorial Psalm, Gloria, and
plan some extra music for Holy Week
More News
From the Letter of Paul to the Benedictines.
Dear All,
My 5 star care at St Joseph's continues unabated. I probably shouldn't admit to that
because I'd lose all your sympathy!
I've had a bit of trouble with post op complications and side effects of the cocktail
of tablets I've been on. I have to go back to the hospital tomorrow (Friday) because
they want to take a look at the wound, which isn't behaving itself properly!
Hopefully it will get sorted. It just means that I can't quite sit back and enjoy this
"holiday break". So I still need the sympathy really!!
One bit of good news - the problem I had with my back seems to have cleared up.
Apparently, it's the result of anaesthetic, which relaxes you so much that muscles in
spasm get released. So, it seems that I've found a remedy for bad backs!!
I am really grateful for your continued prayers. I pray also for you all. I particularly
prayed for the repose of the soul of Mary Thacker at Mass today. May God bless
you all as you gather together this weekend and during the coming week.
A special "hi" to all the children at Church and at the School.
With love,
Fr Paul.
Unused Rosaries: Do you have unused rosaries tucked away in the
cupboard or drawer, we are collecting rosaries to send out to various
missions around the world, this appeal is being made by The Catenians
who have so far sent out 135,000 rosaries. It would be good if we could
give this initiative our support, spare rosaries can be given to Fr. Paul or
Brian Ingram.
