Dear Friends,
As our schools break up for Easter, please
keep all our children in your prayers.
We have two funerals this week. Sybil
Coulson will be received into church on
Monday evening at 6.00pm and her
Requiem will be on Tuesday at 1030. Sybil
is the wife of Kevin whom many of you
will know. Frances Simpson’s funeral
service is on Friday at 1.00pm. Our deepest
sympathies go out to both families. Please
do come along and support the families if
you are able.
The Pope has declared a “Year of Mercy”
from the beginning of December this year.
What better way to prepare than to put in
your diaries Divine Mercy Sunday, 12th of
April here at St Aelreds. Especially the
Hour of Great Mercy from 300pm.

CROSSING THE THRESHOLD-During
Lent, everyone is invited to pop into St.
Aelred’s Church, on Friday afternoons
between 2.30pm & 3.00pm to say a prayer,
light a candle, listen to some music, reconnect with Church, ask a questionsomeone will be there. Come along, bring
the children or a friend, all very welcome!
CROSSING THE THRESHOLD TEAM
have planned a series of DVD
presentations based on Reflections on the
Creed. The first: WHY WE BELIEVE
21st April 7.15 – 8.30pm in the Centre.
Other dates: 5th and 19th May and 2nd June.
All very welcome, especially anyone who
has been away from church for a while.

CATHOLIC PAPERS ON SALE AT THE BACK OF CHURCH
CONFIRMATIONS- will take place on Tuesday 16th June at St George’s Church, 7.00pm. If you are in year 9 or
above, including any adults, and wish to be confirmed the first meeting is at St Georges at 6.30pm, 26th March. THIS
THURSDAY! Any Catechists who wish to join us please come along.
BAPTISM COURSE- If you wish to have your child Baptised and they are in year 3 or below our Baptism course
starts on Tuesday 24th March at 630pm. This will take the form of four meetings.
CONFESSIONS AT ST WILFRID’S- Saturday 28th March. Come and get ready for Easter with the Sacrament of
Reconciliation from 10am till 3.00pm. I will be there 11am till 12 noon.
BISHOP’S OF ENGLAND AND WALES LETTER-please take a letter about the forthcoming General Election.
BIBLE GROUP- This Lent The OL/EM Bible group will be using the Framework of the ‘7 deadly sins’ as party of it’s
Lenten programme. Using passages of scripture we will be focusing on the corresponding 7 virtues. Sessions run
weekly from the 13th February in the Fr Kelly Room at Our Ladys from 7:15 pm. For more information please contact

FOREIGN CURRENCY: If you still have some unused notes or coins please pass them to any member of the SVP
and remember us as you return from this year's holidays.
PARISH ENVELOPES: New boxes of Parish Envelopes are available from the church windowsills They commence
on 11/12th April. If you currently do not use envelopes and would like to, please fill in a pink form available on the
windowsill near the choir steps and post it in the adjacent white box. Alternatively contact John Ormerod, 01904

SVP York District Festival Meeting, 22nd March, English Martyrs Hall 1.45-4.15pm. Speaker Mrs. Emma Smith from
Leeds NHS giving a presentation on Dementia. All welcome. To book please ring Linda on 338562 before 13th March.
SVP Pea and Pie supper and Quiz night Saturday 28th March 7,30pm. Tickets on sale from next weekend. Please
support the SVP and come along for a good night out.
UCM DIARY DATES. On Tuesday 24th March Fr Richard from St Wilfrid’s will speak about St Pilip Neri, Blessed
John Newman and the Oratory 7.30pm in the Centre All welcome. 14th April 7.30pm Plans for the Heritage Centre and
Mary Ward. With Sister Patricia. All welcome.
LENTEN LUNCH each Friday during Lent. Station’s of The Cross at 11.30am Mass at 12.00noon then Soup Lunch
in the Centre at 12.30pm. All proceeds will go to CAFOD. If you can help by preparing the soup lunch there is a list at
the back of church .Please add your name asap. Thank you.
ECUMENICAL LENT LUNCHES Every Wednesday in Lent at 12.noon at St Hilda’s Church, Tang Hall Lane, there
is a soup and roll lunch followed by a talk hosted by one of our local churches. All Welcome.
FOOD BANK. FEED THE HUNGRY – “When I was hungry you gave me food”. The SVP coordinate donations to
the Tang Hall Community Centre. Any donations of tinned or dried foods in date (pet food welcomed) are needed and
make a big difference to needy families. Place in box in church porch. Thank you to all who donate so generously. No
fruit or fresh produce please.
RAFFLE PRIZES. Thank you for donating raffle prizes for parish fund-raising events. Your generosity is very much

YORK DISTRICT HOSPITAL CHAPLAIN If you or someone you know would like a visit whilst in hospital

CHRISM MASS A coach is booked on 31st March to travel to the Cathedral for mass at 12noon. Cost of coach and
buffet £12. Accompanied under 16’s free. Depart Church 10am return approx 4.30pm. Please add name to list in porch.
DERWENT HOUSE We visit Derwent House, Kexby for a service on Wednesday 25th March at 3.30pm (not
2.30pm). Meet church 3pm or Kexby 3.20pm. All welcome. Ring 07950488685.
DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY-12th April, here at St Aelred’s. Exposition from 11.30pm, Hour of Great Mercy 3.004.00, Sacrament of Reconciliation 1.00-3.00. All very welcome.
SOCIETY FOR THE UNBORN CHILD-the White Flower Appeal raised £287.20. Thank you!
OUR LADY CHAPEL MOUNT GRACE-On Saturday 28th March, starting at 2.30pm there will be Stations of the
Cross. Afterwards in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament, the Choir will sing “Jesus Priceless Treasure” by J. S.
Bach and this will be followed by Mass. All Welcome.
