GREEN BAY, WI
Located in northeast Wisconsin on a bay of Lake Michigan, Green Bay (population
102,000) is a strong, waterfront business community and the seat of Brown County
(population 240,000). Green Bay and the surrounding communities of Allouez,
Ashwaubenon, Bellevue, Howard and DePere have better weather than many areas in
Wisconsin and elsewhere. Brown County’s economy is quite diverse with larger
employers in the paper, paper converting, healthcare, retail, insurance, banking,
transportation and food processing industries and a
myriad of smaller service and manufacturing
companies. The 2011 World Champion NFL Green
Bay Packers and their operations are an important
component of the area’s economy to say nothing of the
community pride. Brown County continues to be one
of the fastest growing counties in the state with a
population increase of 9.8% over the past decade.
Unemployment remains lower than both state and
national levels and investment continues in the form of
business expansion, new development and extensive
redevelopment, particularly in downtown Green Bay.
The area’s increasingly diverse population includes a
growing representation of people of Hispanic and
Hmong origin, along with the Oneida Nation in Brown and Outagamie County.
Green Bay enjoys four distinct seasons with warm springs and summers and richly
colored autumns to compliment the winter season. The regional community is consistently
recognized for its outstanding quality of life with recognition as one of the Top 5 Places in
the Nation to Raise a Family(Kiplinger’s magazine,2007 ) and the #2 City Nationwide to
Start a Business (Entrepreneur magazine, 2006). Residents of Green Bay point to many
reasons why it’s “Better by the Bay” including warm, hard working, loyal people; familyfriendly communities; quality healthcare; low cost of living; low cost of doing business; top
quality education systems; short commute times; year round choices in outdoor recreation
and multiple venues for viewing arts and entertainment including galleries, museums, and
the performing arts.
